have to look at the film

Though, seriously, I'm very excited about the passing formation pics from thl. Iirc, the bunch formation was not called very often. And I don't remember any screens at all.

Wont happen, harbs probably leaves before this happens.
Posted this in a dif thread that will probably get merged but hre it is again... Our playcalling on both offense and defense was atrocious. People wanna lay off Roman but we are running a college offense against pro teams. I know everyone watches seattles games, that is an OC who can call plays. Kap had a horrible game last night but the playcalling also left him out in the cold. Soo many times he got the jitters because AGAIN AFTER 3 SEASONS we have a system where its all or nothing. 90% of the time Kap got the jitters because we are trying to get the first down in one play, and not a sequence of plays. Receivers arent breaking off their routes to give Kap an option under duress.

The offense is undisciplined and at this point there is no excuse. Everyone is to blame, but Roman most of all. It starts with him in this offense and if he sees that Kap is trying to force things then ADJUST! Kap throws an interception and we are still running nothing but 10+ yard routes... how hard is it to get the concept of a QB needs to find his groove so call high percentage pass plays. AGAIN he leaned on Gore too much and left Hyde in the cold until it was too late. Also... seriously!?!?! We are going back to the read option as our "wrinkle"? Pathetic all around.

My issue with this statement is that the 2nd INT of the game - that was a short curl. The corner had outside leverage against a single safety look. As a QB, you're going to look to throw that ball towards the inside shoulder of the receiver.

1. The corner did do a good job of jumping the route, but that ball needs to be placed on the inside shoulder. If he places that ball on the inside shoulder it's an easy 7 yard gain and a completely different story. The corner was only able to get the ball because Crabs had to adjust to the ball about 2-3 feet off from where it should've been.
2. When a team is stacking the box like Chicago was(they were showing a lot of close LB pressures with the LB's near or at the LOS), you have to go to the more intermediate routes to take advantage of the press of the LB's. If you try and go to the short routes over the middle you're going to be running your receivers into LB's(i.e. the play Davis was injured on).

I agree with this. And I think what really frustrates me the most is when I compare our progress to Seattle's. We've seen them click on all cylinders many times, we have yet to see that with the 49ers.

If their LBs are crowding the LOS then the WR should already have won since the LB will have to "catch up" for showing blitz, easy pitch and catch for any coherent offense. There is no excuse and there are multiple plays showing horrible play calling. I mean JFC there were times the bears didnt even bother putting CBs on our receivers and we cant even get them the ball. That is solely the fault of the offensive system. We ran against 8 in the box and threw against 7 dropping back in coverage, Romans playcalling is so predictable its a handicap. Watch the DB abandon their assignments pre snap because they already know all of our plays... there is no excuse for that.

We haven't? We had several games last year, St. Louis -2nd game, the Buc's game, the Falcons game, the Panthers game in the playoffs, where our offense showed a lot of things really well and was really clicking. Also, several people have talked about Seattle really "clicking" on offense to where it's like they're an offensive juggernaut. Seattle is marginally better than us offensively(if they are really better than us). They just lost to a team that is not a defensive powerhouse by any means. You can't use their performance against GB that everyone saw as the argument that they are much better than us offensively, GB still has a lot of problems on defense. Also, trying to compare Seattle's offense to ours is truly trying to compare apples to oranges. There are similarities, but the systems could not be much different. What would be closer to compare our system to is the the Browns this year, or the Chiefs or the Panthers. These are teams whose systems are much closer to ours than Seattle's. Seattle's offense is much more like the Redskins from last year,

Well, that's not what I'm meaning. What I mean is that when a LB starts taking a drop from a 1 yard set - your short drag routes run right behind them. To win on a drag route you either need to be between the zones or "crossing the face" of the defender. Meaning, you are running in front of them to shield them from the ball. When a LB is dropping into a zone from a press set they aren't trying to "catch up" anywhere. They're just dropping into their zones. The only zones open to the LB press are the intermediate to deep routes which you already stated are idiotic to run - So it's kind of a logic loophole right now. I'll pull some pics from the Dallas game because the film isn't available yet for reference.

I can't speak to the DB's abandoning their assignments pre-snap because I haven't watched the film yet, but, from what I could see on the broadcast last night, I'm not sure where you're talking about.....

To be clear, I dont think seattle is an offensive juggernaut by anymeans... but their offensive play calling is a juggernaut. You can bet that on every 3rd and short that has been preceded with successful running, they will call the perfect play to trap a defense that is loading the box. Sh*t look at the Harvin TD that wasnt a TD, great example. Or look to the game prior to that where they caught GB in multiple PA's and walked the ball in for scores.

I just find it funny that when Roman goes full Jimmy Raye mode people excuse it because we are up and playing conservative. We had a 1.5 possession lead and our offense turtled up, then got gimmicky and then just sputtered. Roman has no concept of getting a QB in a rhythm, each play can be vastly different than the other, each series is a crap shoot of are we going with gimmicky read option, are we spreading it out, or power running. While the versatility is nice... if we cant execute then its all crap and leave our players even wondering wtf we are doing.

I'm not a huge Roman fan, at all, but Kap was set free. Although there was some play calling issues lasnight the majority of the offensive breakdown was execution, by Kap. I think some of us are in some sort of denial when it comes to Kaepernick. He simply needs work on his pocket game. I'm SOOOOOooo tiered of talking about it but it should be common knowledge by now.

Maybe I'm just further along in the process?

We need to run run run... None of these 30+ pass attempts per game. I don't think Kaepernick is capable of doing that without making mistakes.

Gore and Hyde need to control the Arizona game. They have multiple defenders out with injury. Running the ball needs to be the focus.

I am embarrassed that we lost to the Bears @ home up 17 points. That's flat out embarrassing and pathetic. I don't even like following football after a lose.

Hope all you Niner fans are doing well and are having a good day
