Say we keep Kap...how do we fix this and move forward with him?

I say we keep the guy that got us to the Super Bowl and damn near another. So, how do we do this? Part of me says you can Jimmy T (sorry, Jimmy T), you bring in Sean Payton (que Brinks truck backing up) and in the first three rounds of the draft you draft O-linemen. I really do think that one of the problems Kap is facing is his struggle with whether to run or throw. He is thinking way too much. Also, I think they are not challenging him by constantly saying/claiming that they have stripped back the playbook to suit his needs. Here's an idea. Don't. By doing that you are sending the message for him to just go out there and run around with reckless abandon, while Kurt Warner is saying "trust your eyes, go through your reads, and get rid of the ball." While everybody else is saying "don't force it, get rid of it, but make the play!"

I think part of it is on Kap, the other part is on that god awful o-line. Kap is all flustered and confused. He was right; a 7torm was coming. It is here now. And it is kicking his ass. Badly. So, for those of you that want to reclaim/save/bolster our QB and move forward, I ask you: how? How do you do it?

awesome, more Kap threads
Its over. Kap needs a Timeout. He needs to sit and watch Gabbert play. Kap is deer in headlights syndrome right now. Too many hits the last 3 years and he has no football functional intelligance.
Sean Payton will be a HIGHLY sought out coach. Unless we throw a s**t load of money at him, I doubt he'll come to Santa Clara. But in the world of hypotheticals, yes, that would be awesome. This current staff cannot fix Kap. Maybe a good shrink can.
He'll be 28 next season and it's apparent that he never developed a good handle of qb fundamentals entering this season. If we keep him and empty our wallet on a great supporting cast, I think the best case scenario is a Vikings Randall Cunningham: slightly matured dual-threat playmaker. But, even Randall's star didn't shine that long in Minni.

Kaep still has 12 games for the light to go off. If not, he might go the way of Tebow/Freeman. Or, he might be that wildcat/change-of-pace QB some teams might find use for.
Get him the best OL in the business and the Niner D from 3 years ago.
Ask Kap to renegotiate to under $10M per year with the year-to-year option aspect of his contract remaining in tact.

If he accepts, he stays on the roster and genuinely battles with Gabbert for the starting role while we continue to lose games and dump huge draft capital (yearly top 5 picks) into the OLine. We also use our cap space to make moves in free agency on proven guys. If Kap refuses to renegotiate, we cut him and sign a middling veteran on the cheap to battle with Gabbert for the starting role.

Ideally, the years we spend rebuilding the OLine will also see turnover in the coaching staff. Once we have competent coaches and the OLine is replenished (as well as a few other holes filled), we look at drafting THE franchise quarterback of the future. I think this could take place over about three years.
His processing whats in front of him is sooo slow. I understand the Oline has been brutal and it has but there are moments and instances where he is not seeing the field/coverage at all at all and delivers inaccurrate passes. Dude will be 28 in less then a month and has been the starter going on 3 years now. No excuses he's gotten progressively worse and worse and worse. I think the 49ers should sit him for a game or two and let him try to see what he's not seeing and maybe hopefully a light will click?

Kap would fail horribly at WR.

Here is the thing with Kap, great athlete but not fluid at all.
Have to wait for the light to go on for Kaep. Don't know when that will be....

THIS!
he's done, he's broken

QBs dont just magically recover from being shell shocked, let alone QBs who can't even play QB to begin with
