San Francisco 49ers rookie CB Rashard Robinson was one of the team's youngsters that took out during the offseason program. With training camp underway, that has not changed.
The 49ers have a lot of youth at the cornerback position. Tramaine Brock looks to be the likely starter with Jimmie Ward making a strong case to line up across from him. However, Robinson is one of those names that is getting mentioned more and more as the media covers practices.
"Long-armed and rangy, Robinson stood out in the spring for his aggressive style of play, and he's followed that with a strong start to the summer session," said Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee on Thursday.
Barrows reported that the defensive players on the team have a running competition going on. They are seeing who can come up with the most big plays in practices. "Players get one point for a pass break-up, five for an interception, etc, etc," reports Barrows. Robinson won the contest during spring practices.

Robinson has been described as a ball-hawk as he looks to assert himself among the crowded and youthful group.
"Another bright spot of practice was the emerging play of rookie cornerback Rashard Robinson," said Taylor Price of 49ers Media. "The fourth-round draft pick out of LSU recorded a leaping interception on a deep out pattern during a combo route-running period. The second-team corner later broke up three more passes."

"We want the ball. We don't want nobody else with the ball. We're a real selfish defense," said Robinson while talking to reporters on Thursday following practice.
"The confidence, it's going to continue to grow," continued Robinson. "Just got to stay hungry and humble through the whole passage."

"The best cornerback on the field today," said Grant Cohn of the Press Democrat regarding Robinson. "Knocked down five passes and intercepted a sixth. On the interception, Robinson read Colin Kaepernick's eyes and undercut his pass near the sideline before the coaches blew the play dead. Easily could have been a pick-six."
Robinson was drafted out of LSU in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In two years with LSU, he played in 15 games compiling 30 tackles, 1.5 for a loss, an interception, and three passes defended. He was suspended at LSU for failing a drug test as well as academic issues.
