Hall of Fame defensive lineman Charles Haley has been an unofficial coach during the San Francisco 49ers' training camp. He has been working with the team's defensive lineman, offering pass rushing tips. How long will Haley be in that role?
"Charles can star as long as he wants. I'm not going to tell him to leave," said 49ers head coach Chip Kelly via ESPN this morning in Denver.
"Kelly said Haley has a unique way of teaching that connects with the players," reports Nick Wagoner of ESPN.
Haley played for the 49ers from the 1986 season until the 1991 season before before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 1993 second-round selection and a 1994 third-round selection.
"I never got over Charles leaving, but a small part of me took pride in the fact that the best defensive player on the Cowboys team was a 49er," said former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. during his Hall of Fame enshrinement speech earlier this month.
