San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan jumped on a conference call with the media on Tuesday afternoon. He's had some time to reflect on Monday night's 33-30 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Shanahan has also had an opportunity to review the game film from the heartbreaking defeat that dropped his team to 1-5 on the season.

Quarterback C.J. Beathard started the game hot. He completed all three of his pass attempts for 48 yards during the offense's impressive game-opening seven-play, 75-yard scoring drive.

Beathard finished Monday night's game having completed 16-of-23 pass attempts for 245 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The pick came on the final offensive play of the night and provided Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers an opportunity to set up a game-winning field goal.

What did Shanahan think about his quarterback's performance now that he has had an opportunity to review the game?

"I thought C.J., he did some real good things," Shanahan told reporters on the call. "C.J. was one of the reasons I thought we had a chance to win that game and he made some big plays throughout the game, kept the chains moving a number of times for us.

"There's a couple of plays at the end I know he's like to have back where he had a couple of opportunities that he missed. But he also had a few opportunities early in the game that he made, which is one of the reasons we were in the position we were."

Two of those early opportunities include the following touchdown passes to wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.

"By no means was it perfect but I was happy with how he played," Shanahan continued. "I was proud of how he played. But there's definitely things he can learn from, and I think he will. That's what goes with playing in this league. You've got to take all the lessons you learn, whether good or bad, and you've got to make sure you turn them into positives and hopefully they can make you a better player."

The 49ers added a third quarterback, veteran Tom Savage, to the 53-man roster on Tuesday. It's the first time during the Shanahan era that San Francisco will head into a regular-season game carrying more than two quarterbacks on the active roster.

The 49ers will use the week to prepare to host the Los Angeles Rams at Levi's Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The team's first practice of the week is scheduled for Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. PT.
