The San Francisco 49ers held their annual State of the Franchise event at the California Theater in San Jose on Wednesday night. Executives, coaches, and players spoke in front of about 1,000 fans and shared their thoughts on the team as it heads into its third season under general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan.
The event was chock-full of memorable quotes and team announcements. The most notable news of the night was the on-stage announcement that veteran tackle Joe Staley was signed to a two-year contract extension, keeping him in red and gold through the 2021 season.
Al Guido kicked off the event, which was hosted by "Good Morning Football" host Peter Schrager and team reporter Joe Fann. Then Shanahan, Lynch, and CEO Jed York went onstage.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppo, tight end George Kittle, and offensive linemen Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey represented the offense while new pass rusher Dee Ford, cornerback Richard Sherman, linebacker Fred Warner, and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner represented the defense.
