1st day mock draft

With the end of the season in the books and the draft positions just about settled; here is my first day mock draft.

#13 Mike Iupati, OG Idaho
#17/18 Bruce Campbell, OT Maryland
#45 Jerry Hughes, DE TCU

This will take care of our top needs on day one.

Of course this will change depending on the off season FA signings.

I like it. We have to do what we can to get Iupati, he's just too good to pass up.

13 the best safety or db, 17 the best guard
Sorry to mock the mock, but the NFL has tried to confuse us old vets once again.

Now, Day One means Round One only. The draft begins on Thursday, April 22, and only goes through the first round. Then, Rounds 2 and 3 are held on the Second Day. Rounds 4-7 happen on Day Three, on Saturday.

And, I was just used to getting out of the habit of the first day meaning Rounds 1-3.

I know I'm pretty pissed off they're breaking this up into 3 days...or is it 4 now?

I like the mock even though I'm not a huge fan of Campbell...but I love Hughes so in my mind if that would happen it's like getting Campbell in the 2nd round :D
what does our line look like with your draft?
Jerry Hughes falls to the 2nd?
Would be nice draft

Well, depending on how our draft picks fare during training camp and who they retain during the off season; but here is my prediction if the 49ers were to draft according to the mock:

Staley Baas/Rachal Heitmann Iupati Campbell

I think that Staley stays as the left tackle. Baas is resigned as he does not get a lot of attention during the off season FA period. Rachal will compete with Baas, but I feel that Baas wins as he has fared slightly better than Rachal. Heitmann is solid. Iupati should start if he is as good as advertised. Campbell only if he can beat out Pashos/Synder.

Of course, I would prefer that the 49ers front office get a FA guard to compete with Baas/Rachal/Iupati, but I am not sure who will be available (it looks like Mankins is not going anywhere).

So, that's how I see it as of today. A lot can change before the draft however.

According to Maddog's preliminary top 100 draft board Hughes goes 43 overall. Since the 49ers should be drafting at #45, he could fall there.

I am more concerned with getting O-line help than pass rusher. I think our defense is doing well and should be top 10 next year. If we had an offense that could crack the top 10, we could definitely make the playoffs next year.

I do; however, think that pass rusher is a need.

Thanks Maddog. I do not like that the NFL has divided the draft into 3 days. I forgot about that.

So, if I were to correct the post, I would still put Iupati and OT as the first day priority.

Only because I feel that Berry/Anthony Davis/Russell Okung will not be available when we pick. Iupati is a nice consolation however.

It's beautiful my man. My days off our Thursday-Saturday. I use to hate to go work on Sunday and calling all my buddies every 5 minutes to see what was going on. Or sitting in my office all day tracking it and not getting any work done.

This here is the smartest thing the NFL has ever done. For me anyway!

Big workout guy - think Merriman, Davis and other Maryland guys.

Big potential but raw as sushi.
