Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

Statistically, it wouldn't surprise me if that's true, because he throws jump balls and wide open deep balls to Mike Williams and Cain with a pretty high rate of success. But he also attempts a lot of passes at or near the line of scrimmage compared to someone like Kizer who throws a lot more intermediate passes which is one reason why his yards per attempt is far below Kizer and Trubisky if you exclude the hurricane game they played in. Of the top 3 QBs, Watson probably has the weakest arm - it's still strong enough to make NFL throws, but there aren't a lot of QBs 6'2 or shorter who were drafted in the top 5 without having plus arms.

7.9, 8.1, 8.4. These are the Yards per attempt by Watson, Kizer and Mitch.

11.83, 13.79, 12.32. These are the Yards per Completion by Watson, Kizer and Mitch.
Very early in the process, but Watson is a player the team has to take a LONG look at, even if Garrett is still on the board. Winners at this level, at the most important of positions, don't come around very often.

One of the key reasons I graded Wentz higher than Goff last year is the characteristic of a winner. Some players dramatically elevate others around them, give them confidence to play at a higher level. Watson has that IT factor at the college level. The question is whether that translates to the pro game. Someone is going to select him, and if they hit, are going to be in very good shape for a long time.

Funny that you didn't read the rest of the sentence you highlighted and chose to include their stats in the hurricane. Without that game, Kizer's yards per attempt is 8.5 I believe and Trubisky's was closer to 8.7.

Kizer and Watson have almost identical passer ratings if you exclude that game and Trubisky has a sizeable lead to go along with more passing yards per game.

My first thought after the game was Vince Young.

I think he has the ability to take over a game like VY did. But I don't know if there's much more of a comparison. Watson is a more selective runner and isn't the knucklehead Vince was.

You can't take out real numbers to use made up numbers.

Here's a couple more....

41, 26, 30....these are the TD passes in 2016 for Watson, Kizer and Mitch

17, 9, 6....these are the INT's for Watson, Kizer and Mitch

67.0, 58.7, 68.2...these are the completion percentages for Watson, Kizer and Mitch for the season

How so other than willing his team to win?

I ask because they are not the same player....vince is bigger and faster but much less of a passer.

That said Vince was a winner as his 30-17 NFL record stands. Also made two pro bowls two trips to the playoffs in his short career and won Rookie of the year.

It is such a crapshoot. He certainly has the chance to be very good given the "it" factor that he seems to have. I'm sure most will disagree after the game he had the other night but I still think Trubisky has the higher ceiling and the better skills to be a great NFL QB. However, the floor for him isnt as high simply because of his lack of games. But, both guys are very good prospects who have a chance to be great if they are not rushed into a starting role and get into good situations. In my opinion, both are on a par with Wentz and above Goff. It is really going to be interesting to see the order they are drafted and if Kizer also sneaks into the conversation.

Is there a scenario where we can grab both him and Mike Williams?

Sure. DO you want to give up a several picks including a 2nd this year and a first next year to get the 5th or 6th pick to select Mike Williams? I think that is what it would take. Even then, there is no guarantee Cleveland wont take Watson.

Yes. The scenario is Mike Williams posts a video of him huffing marijuana two days before the draft.
