Tremaine Edmunds - LB - Virginia Tech

I don't see him as a SAM

Because Foster's situation is up in the air. If he's not suspended he's Mike. That makes Smith Will and you'd have to work Edmunds in as an over sam. Jax had the same problem minus the idiocy with Poz, Telvin and Jack.

Very coachable, great character guy apparently. People rave about his work ethic.

High effort, great work ethic, great attitude
Football family, coaches son, pro bowler father played played football 8 years and is HOF ballot.
Highly productive, similar stats to Reuben Foster last year, Butkus Award finalist
Outstanding athletic traits with high SPARQ score
Prototypical body with long arms
Excellent 10 yard split, esp for 6'5" 250 lb (highly correlated with pro upside) (and also 40 yard time)
19 y/o = will add a lot of strength and explosiveness over the next 2-3 years, which should aid his pass rush

"Excellent lateral quickness / Combines excellent length with rare reactive athleticism and agility to access and tackle opportunities from unconventional angles / Captures and finishes as a tackler at highly efficient rate / Elite traits help to create sensational production across the board / Electric as "add-on" rusher when back stays in / Has length and burst to affect pocket as edge rusher / Effective man cover talent with ability to match shifty running backs and bulky tight ends"

"There's no doubt Virginia Tech has boasted some unbelievable defensive talent over the years," associate head coach/defensive coordinator Bud Foster added. "I think about Corey Moore, DeAngelo Hall, Darryl Tapp, Xavier Adibi and so many others. But in my 31 years at Virginia Tech, I've never coached a linebacker like Tremaine Edmunds. His combination of size, speed and athleticism are something I've never seen all wrapped in one package. He's simply unique."
"Tremaine checks all the boxes of what we're looking for in a linebacker and then some," head coach Justin Fuente said. "His size, speed and athleticism are off the charts. While his physical talent is unquestioned, so is his work ethic, character and compassion. Tremaine's parents are special people and they've raised three phenomenal sons. Fortunately for Hokie fans, all three of their boys chose to attend Virginia Tech."

I would love the pick. Im hopeful that our coaches can make it simple for him to ease him into our scheme. Thats the beauty of the cover 3, its not too confusing.

I'm starting to like Edmunds, especially now that Smith maybe going to the Colts.

Don't need to brotha, and it's a good thing because it increases your chances of not being disappointed with who we take

It's not confusing in the run game, you still need to pattern match in your zone, wrong decisions there can be costly.

I would only endorse this pick if Roquan was off the board, he's better in every single way, except being 4 inches shorter.
In that recent mock, I have the San Francisco 49ers trading down with the Buffalo Bills and selecting Leighton Vander Esch. This won't be the case if Tremaine Edmunds is available when the Niners are called to the clock, as he is the player the team covets.

If the Niners draft Edmunds, how many times will KJ Wright be brought up during Saleh's post-draft presser?

3. Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech – Early Day 2
Edmunds is the 26th overall player on my board, but I guess I don't like him as much as my peers who have him top 10 or even five. He got a lot better as the season went on, playing faster and getting into attack mode earlier. Still, Edmunds is a work-in-progress who is going to have to think the game quickly due to his issues getting off blocks. His range and coverage upside at the position are tantalizing.

Ideal Scheme Fit: Edmunds can play WILL or MIKE, but this talk of putting him on the line of scrimmage needs to end yesterday.

Leyard is out there with some of his picks. LVE as a day 2 mid round pick? He mocked Kolton Miller at #10 to the Raiders.

He could be right but he is certainly out there with some of his thoughts.

I prefer to not take a LB in round 1. But I need to see this forum if we take Edmunds. It would be glorious.
