Malik Willis-QB-Liberty

Another realistic option at QB for the 49ers. Definitely will be watching more of him to.

I'm definitely checking this guy out because it is not set in stone that Shanahan will draft a QB in the first round. Knowing Klye it shouldn't surprise anybody if he drafts a QB on the 2nd day.
What's his comp? Dak Prescott?
So looks like Willis is a much more realistic option now. Where is he projected to go like the mid rounds?

3. Sleeper: QB Malik Willis, Liberty
In case you missed it, head coach Hugh Freeze has Liberty undefeated, ranked inside the AP Top 25 and unstoppable on offense. The biggest beneficiary of this is quarterback Malik Willis.
At 6'1" and 215 pounds, the junior quarterback isn't the biggest or strongest, but he is making impressive plays as a passer and rusher for the Flames offense. Willis has threaded the needle and showed excellent touch passing while answering questions about the level of competition in wins over Virginia Tech and Syracuse that showed he can hang with the big boys.

Malik Willis has been one of the breakout stars of the 2020 college football season, leading Liberty to a 9-1 regular season record while putting 20 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns in those 10 games.

After scoring three more rushing touchdowns in the ongoing Cure Bowl against Coastal Carolina, the former Auburn quarterback now holds the Flames' record for most touchdowns responsible for in a season at 33. He also broke the record for rushing yards in a season for a Liberty player with 855. Both records were held by Mike Brown, who is now the wide receivers coach at Cincinnati.
Firm no on this guy. Extremely raw as a passer. Don't think he will ever be anything more than a developmental QB.

Oh yeah I heard he balled out in that game, especially running with the football. I didn't get a chance to watch it but beating CCU was huge for Liberty.
There's a lot of hype building up around him for next season.

The NFL evaluators who The Athletic spoke to that have seen a little of Willis have a word that's been used to describe him: "freaky." Last season, the 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior threw for 2,260 yards, completed 64 percent of his passes, had a 20-6 touchdown-interception ratio, rushed for 944 yards and ran in 14 touchdowns.

The college coaches who faced Willis in 2020 echo that.

"We were undefeated, we had beat BYU, I thought we were pretty good on defense. And I felt like he single-handedly beat us," says Coastal Carolina defensive coordinator Chad Staggs. Willis threw for 220 yards and ran for four touchdowns in a 37-34 Liberty win against a defense that held Zach Wilson to 17 points. "We couldn't tackle him. He's got a cannon. From a true physical ability thing, he was special.

"Watching him on film, I was scared to death," said Gibson. "He has a really, really strong arm and a very quick release. One of the games he threw a ball like 75 yards and it was right on the money."

Quincy Avery, a private quarterback coach who has trained, among others, Deshaun Watson, Josh Dobbs, Justin Fields and Trey Lance, who is considered to have the biggest arm in this year's NFL draft class. Avery told The Athletic this week that Willis has "the livest arm out of anybody. He has the strongest arm of anybody I have ever seen."

"We're talking about a quarterback that's 220 pounds. I don't know what you know he runs but if he's not the fastest guy on the field, he's probably the second-fastest player, and he's not just a straight-line guy," said Austin. "He's a super twitchy athlete who has unbelievable natural playmaking ability with great vision as a runner. He's got a great arm and has a quick release and he can make all the off-platform throws."

Could be the next Trey Lance in 2022.

He's got a little more pedigree than Lance. Top 400 recruit and spent a year at Auburn I believe.
