Nick Cross - Safety - Maryland

At this point in the evaluation process Nick Cross gets the "Most Underrated" award for me. Although his 40 time that he recently ran at the combine may have up'd his draft stock. He can play in the box or single-high with speed and anticipation.

PFF Big Board Rank: 90
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 210
Class: Jr.

"Unlike pretty much everyone else blazing 4.3s at the NFL Scouting Combine, Cross ran his 4.34 at a hefty 212 pounds. The former track star can straight up fly, and his range in a single-high defense will be coveted." -PFF

In 2021 Cross played 781 defensive snaps.
2- Dline
53- Slot
24- Corner
281- Box Safety
420- Deep Safety

I have him mid 3rd round.. one INSTINCTIVE player !!
Nick Cross

S Maryland

Height: 6-0 | Weight: 212 | RAS: 9.91

There are multiple examples from his Maryland career of Cross utilizing his size and length profile to make plays on the ball. His production is a testament to his playmaking ability, but how he makes these plays is impressive. The Maryland safety can get his long limbs around to break up passes, and he's flashed timing at the catch point in the end zone to make touchdown-saving plays.

Cross is a former track star — both in high school and at Maryland — and this is evident in his scouting report. One of the most impressive elements of his game is his explosive speed. He can close in a heartbeat, appearing on the scene out of nowhere to make a play. His click-and-close ability gives him exciting coverage potential at the next level. That same speed allows him to play from a single-high alignment with impressive range.

Looks like a nice replacement for Tartt in the secondary
I like this kid too
My official draft crush

Unfortunately I feel like he is going to get drafted a lot higher than what he is being projected.
After signing C Ward with our CB group, Safety should also be high on our list along with ER and OL. Can always get a CB later to develop. I like this kid.

i think thats what the FO is going for. We may not spend a CB pick untill late in draft
Ward is young and very good and we have Ambry and Lenoir from last years draft who both look pretty promising And Eman who is a solid #2

It would suprise me if we dont see a day 2 or early Day 3 pick on a S
This years Darnell Savage?
With a way less cool name might I add. Surprise first rounder
I would not be surprise if Bill takes him in the 1st round .. or even trade out of the 1st and take him early 2nd !!
Definitely have to consider safety high now. Can still add a corner in round 4 and 5.
He looks like a legit playmaker someone who can start day 1. Would help us a lot in the secondary
I really like him. But hrm, would I rather wait for the chance to draft Jalen Catalon next year?
