Sam Williams, DE, Ole Miss

I'm not sure why this kid seems to be flying under the radar recently. It's possible fans believe he's going to be long gone before pick 61 or maybe their concern is that he's had some off the field issues.

But when I look at this current roster it's obvious to me that we need someone who can be a 3 down player, push the pocket, and stop the run. Why? Because our defense took the next step when we allowed AA to play inside at his natural position. If we're drafting an edge rusher high... IMO it should be someone who allows AA to move over on base downs. Not just a 3rd down specialist. I think Sam Williams can be that three down player.

This kid had very solid production in the toughest division in college football. And when I watched the senior bowl, he was one of the 3 alpha players that I saw on the DL alongside Boye Mafe, and Perrion Winfrey.

If he's in reach I definitely think he should be in consideration with our first pick.

I'm with you. We covered him here a bit (halfway down page and next page):

Yup. I still think he deserves his own thread.

I still am not convinced we will draft an edge high this year. But I still hope they do after losing some very good interior players and signing C. Ward. Our defense is much better when we have solid Dline rotation.

Oh all for his own thread. It is deserved. I'm with you on questioning where we draft and Edge. There is so much talent in this draft at DE. Feels like they have to take someone right? But at the same time, with the moves we have made, we are in pretty good shape IMO doing the "by committee" thing. Ebukam came on at the end of the season. We know Hyder can play. Omenihu and Willis aren't scrubs.

Fact is if we grab a good DE, which I am not opposed to for the record, we're going to have to let a good player go. Good problem to have I guess but I'd rather make a BIG move and try and get Linderbaum or Watson (no, I'm not letting go of Watson love and yes we need another GOOD WR we have zippo behind the big 3)

Oh Ive been on record for saying I would trade this entire draft class for Linderbaum. I just don't think him or Watson will be in reach.

I think our only hope to have an impact day 1 starter offensive lineman is to trade up for Zion Johnson or Tyler Smith. But realistically they won't fall far enough either.
In the other thread, someone mentioned that he had a sexual battery allegation.

Read about him a few weeks back. Sounds like a solid ER prospect

I mean, obviously all we need is a 3-team trade

CAR receives: Jimmy Garoppolo, 2022 3rd (via PIT), 2023 1st (via PIT), 2023 3rd (via SF, comp)
PIT receives: 2022 R1P6
SF receives: 2022 R1P20

Why Carolina does it: They are going to use pick 6 on a QB. This coaching staff is on their last life, and are in no position to wait for a guy to develop - they won't be around long enough to let this guy take his lumps. Do they use pick 6 on Malik Willis? Or do they use pick 6 on Jimmy G, a 3rd this year when they would otherwise have no other picks until the end of round 4, and an extra 1st and 3rd next year in a draft class MUCH stronger at QB?

Why Pittsburgh does it:. Now they actually are in a position to take Willis as the first QB selected in this year's draft, because they have Trubisky as the bridge QB to let Willis sit and learn. Tomlinson has stated he wants a mobile QB, and Willis has that + the arm strength of the big Ben of old so that they can return to pushing the ball down field in a more vertical offense.

Why SF does it: Well, duh.

R1P20: Zion Johnson, IOL
Trade R1P61, R3P105, R6P221 to move up into the 40s
R2: Arnold Ebiketie, DE
R3: Troy Andersen, LB
R4: Zyon McCollum, CB
R5: Danny Gray, WR
R6: Derrick Deese Jr, TE
R7: Kalia Davis, IDL
2023 2nd: Derrick Van Pran, OC
2023 3rd: Devon Achane, RB
2023 3rd: Blake Freeland, OT

Can trade Greelaw IF it puts us in position to grab Marcus Jones (NCB) or Nick Cross (S), or if we can get a valuable pick next year to use as ammunition to manuever around the board and ensure we get our targets.

I'll take no comments, thanks.

Athletic DE (very athletic) that actually has some speed to power. He's got violent hands Cross vs Williams was a good matchup to watch. He can get after the QB and that's priority #1. I think he's okay setting the edge and clogging up lanes, obviously the off field stuff is a question mark. Wouldn't be shocked if he wasn't on SF's board because of it.

I wouldn't draft him in the 2nd but with one of our comp 3s sure.

By all accounts, he had a kid and completely turned the trajectory of his life around. Sounds like his child became his priority and the catalyst to his maturation.

Yeah saw him at his pro-day with his kid, sounds like he really wants dallas to draft him

I don't think he's as good against the run as Josh Paschal but you're not going to get a 4.4 DE in round 3.

I mean you might based on the off field stuff. We will see. Tyreek Hill ran a 4.29 and lasted until the 5th. His interviews will be pretty important.

I'm not a massive Paschal fan. I don't think he's gonna be some super star or anything. I think Both could be had in the 3rd (move up for SF). Sam's upside > paschal's upside for sure

I agree, I think Sam will be there at our 3rd round pick, If Bonnito and Marcus Jones are gone I'd be good with Sam, if other safer players are still there I'd push it till the early 4th we have and see if he still is avail. He'll need a strong NFL vet to keep him on a good path, but I really hope Sam makes his son proud and elevates himself as a player and a man.

I'm just not sold on Bonnito. I like Jones more and more. Williams is for sure intriguing with our late 3rd or one of those comps.
