2023 Draft needs by priority

Circling back to this. With Brendel back in the fold and the big DT signing, I'm thinking the new top three priorities, in no particular order are OT, EDGE & S.

My votes are for LB, DL and OL. But, Lynch or Shanahan (or both) have a knack for spotting DL talent sitting on the bench with other teams. They are not loathe to work out a trade for a late round pick, or a late FA signing for an under-the-radar player who has the kind of skills this team values.
Linebacker isn't close to being as important of a need as corner, edge, and safety. A 3rd LB isnt even on the field much of the time

Agreed. But, you're assuming the top two guys will remain healthy and effective through a full 17-game regular season and then the playoffs. That hasn't always been the case.
I am warming up to drafting two OTs in the 3rd.

No way. If anything another Guard with one of the 3rd round picks. It's gotta be DE and CB with two outta the three. Maybe take one of the 3rd round picks and trade down into the 4th and pick up another pick.
CB
OT
DE/Edge
TE
LB
At this point with all these incoming comps next yr. I would be afraid to toss one of next yrs 3rd to move up a little.

go get a OT or S you really like.
So far, the Niners have lost starters from the end of the season at the following positions:

RT
S/Nickel
DE
K

The rest of the players that left were backups or rotation players at:

DE
DT
CB
LB

Niners should be fine with the rest of free agency and 11 draft picks to fill those holes. No need to panic.

My guess would be two EDGE and two TE in this draft, like what they did with RB. One drafted early and one draft later.
By signing the Gravedigger it makes up for many shortcomings. The DL can dominate, and there will be no time for opposing QBs to pass. With that said time to load up on the OL, and find a worthwhile TE that can catch passes. I didn't forget the secondary, when did the 49ers not need more help back there?

Yeah, I would like to focus on OT myself. How about trade up those 2 3rds this year if we really like a RT. Maybe, throw in another 5th this year and a 3rd next year if we need to. Is next year too early to think about a future LT? If so, it looks like we have enough ammo to trade up and get one if our 1st pick is a low first rounder.

I don't think there will be 2 OTs worth drafting with our 3rds and not sure with the ammo they have they could even trade up for 2 serviceable guys

My thought was that they would wait and take an OT next year in the 1st round. So this year maybe draft a late round developmental guy like they did with Skule, Moore and McKivitz.
How's our trade up history been looking with the Shanalynch era?
Safety might be more pressing than WR now. depending on how they see Danny Gray and with Jennings an ERFA

Because of where they are picking and who might be available (and obviously depending on who they can get at a cheaper price in FA once numbers start going down) :

BPA Oline (OT, OG or C depth, even with McKivitz and Brendel re-signed)
DE
S
CB
TE ?
DT (assuming they bring in a cheaper free agent on a small salary - McGill maybe back ?)
WR

Wouldn't be shocked if Shanahan spots another RB he wants. And a late round QB to stash on the practice squad.

1. DBs, both CB and safety. Travarius Moore never developed into anything more than a special teams/depth player. Ambry Thomas is looking kinda busty. Need some new blood to the group.
2. OL - RT prospect to push McKovitz. Would also like a swing Tackle (prefer a vet here) and project Center.
3. Edge - Give Kocurek another prospect to develop other than Drake.
4. DT - Preseason 2022, "we have so many DTs, let's trade one". Middle of the season 2022, "who the heck are these callups Dwumfour/McGill?"
5. TE - try to get better at TE2 and TE3.
