2023 Draft needs by priority

2023 Draft needs by priority

Edge: We are projecting a high upside 2nd year player who couldn't finish the season on the active roster last year to be our day one starter with a reclamation project penciled in as the primary depth piece. There's still time to sign Leonard Floyd which would make the edge group look a lot better. Afterwards, I would still look to draft one more.

OL: we need 2. Competition at RT, and a 6th OL who can play all 5 positions, a la Brunskill. Here's looking to you, Saldiveri

CB: we cannot go into the season with Ambry Thomas as our best depth piece without competition.

S: Starters are solid. Depth is sorely lacking.

IDL:. Javon Hargrave is huge, but we need another space eater.

K: preferably someone who can handle kickoffs

Secondary (luxury) needs:

LB, WR, TE.

My thought was that they would wait and take an OT next year in the 1st round. So this year maybe draft a late round developmental guy like they did with Skule, Moore and McKivitz.

I could see them drafting Williams future replacement with their 1st next year.

Hopefully Williams is on board for at least two more seasons. That would give them at least one red shirt season to work a young left tackle into the system.

How's our trade up history been looking with the Shanalynch era?

Trade up to 1st for Reuben Foster
Trade up higher in 2nd for Dante Pettis
Trade up to 3rd for Trey Sermon

Great point....which is why I would use all 11 picks like a scattergun approach....if we can hit on 5 or 6 of them, it will be a great draft. Since it is such an inexact science, more lines in the water = more possible fish caught. Hopefully out scouts have some mid to late round guys they love!
I think if they want Bergeron or Freeland they will need to move up

Looks good. As far as IDL- hope Kalia Davis is good to go and we have Givens for another year. I won't be surprised we add a cheap vet later. T Y Mcgill again? Not a bad idea to get one later in the draft. How about a LB later? Greenlaw gets nicked up every now and then along with the loss of Azeez and depth LB Flanigan-Fowles is UFA.

good call re TY
Draft Recap...With Tarvarius Moore headed to Green Bay, here are the last men standing from this regimes early drafts:
2017: George Kittle
2018: Fred Warner
2019: Nick Bosa, Deebo Samuel, Mitch Wishnowsky and Dre Greenlaw. All locked in except Bosa
2020: Javon Kinlaw, Brandon Aiyuk, Colton McKivitz, Charlie Woerner, Jauan Jennings. All are in their final-year deals except for McKivitz. Fifth year option for Kinlaw will not be exercised, but Aiyuk's will. The big question is whether they can afford Aiyuk long-term. Aiyuk would be my guess for a DeForest Buckner-type draft day trade that will have the fan base complaining for years.

2017 . The worlds greatest what if draft. 49ers could have walked out with Mahomes, Baker, Cupp, Kamara and Kittle.

Lol

I was not a big Mahomes guy (woops) and I had no idea who Kittle was. But I did want Baker, Kupp and especially Kamara.

What a shame they couldn't time travel to find out the results.

I wouldn't make the trade. I'd work on developing replacements for other players. When Deebo's current deal is up, he will be 30 going into that offseason. I think Aiyuk's game will age far better. There will be one year of overlap between the first year of an Aiyuk extension and the last year of Deebo's. They can easily give him a low cap number for 2025. But they will need to bring in some receivers in 2024 to prepare for this transition. I'm thinking Aiyuk explodes in the next two seasons with Brock and Trey as the QBs. Armstead's deal will be up and Juice & Trent Williams will be in the last year of their deals. So that will be some huge contracts coming off the books.

Good call. Aiyuk is available a lot more than Deebo. Maybe draft Jonathan Mingo as a potential Deebo replacement. Trade Deebo next year for an opportunity at a replacement of Williams.

I couldn't trade him either UNLESS a team is overpaying and Aiyuk has proven he can be no. 1. Plus the Deebo/CMC/Kittle trio is too good to let go. We haven't had many opportunities to see all 3 together.

All 32 teams can say this.
