One thing ill say about Goldson(and Whitner too) is he was so damn durable for a guy that savagely threw his body around. The were some hits Dashon and Donte put on people that would have given Reid a seizure if he tried replicate.

Yes. Maybe his coverage skills aren't as good as Reid's but I haven't really seen much from Reid even in the 2013 and 2014 season's when we still had a good front seven. I'm not saying Reid didn't have a decent 2013 season but it wasn't anything spectacular.
Goldson was an enforcer in the defensive backfield. His game was to be an intimidator. Coverage skills don't have to be top notch when guys are afraid to go over the middle of the field. Receiver's these days are fearless and no wonder there are so many 4000 yard passers these days.
I miss this
The game just isn't as exciting for me anymore because these types of plays end up in 15 yard penalties, whether they were clean hits or not.
It was the right move for the 9ers to move on from Goldson though because of the direction the league was heading. That and he wanted a contract he wasn't worth. But to say that Reid is better is still highly debatable.

You take those 15 yarders all day in exchange for guys short arming balls or becoming hesitant.
Aaron Hernandez didn't want to play after Goldson lit him up, St Pierre got knocked out of the game entirely by Hitner, etc.
Keep throwing those flags, and we'll keep knocking guys out.

strongly disagree... you never want to give teams extra yard and extra chances.. its like telling me you are ok with a qb who is throwing picks cuz he is at least taking chances instead of playing it safe.. we will have to agree to disagree here.. you never are ok with giving stuff away and giving teams extra chances

and when you give them 45 yards in drive extending penalties and they score a touchdown,.. you are ok with that???

The league be damned, those type of hits will NEVER be able to be legislated out!!! And the more they try the more unwatchable they'll make the game. Reduce them? Yes! Out? No! The nature of the game simply won't allow it. Players are getting bigger and faster, so big hits won't be going anywhere. The league can penalize and fine until the fines are big enough to finance public education. We already see defenders taking out knees - jeopardizing careers - to avoid fines and penalties, and that's a shame. But IMHO our defense can use a Hitner or Goldson in our secondary because we have not been better without them.

Dashon was garbage in pass coverage and his style of play has been phased out for the past decade.

Dashon Goldson 2009-2011 was better than Reid has EVER been.... The fact is the jury is still out on Eric Reid, I really thought he would develop into a star, although he did make the pro bowl his rookie year I believe, I haven't seen the maturation yet... Goldson really hasn't been that good since leaving SF so to answer the question... We are better off with Eric Reid moving forward.
