Goldson grew up in this Defense and knew how to play it... we fed him, we trained him, we grew him and we let him walk.. Reid played with instinct and after that, he showed why his measurements were the reason why dumb-baalke drafted him in the 1st.

I don't think Reid was a bad pick, I like him, still think he has potential.. but Goldson was the better player and its not close

And Goldson isint even in his prime anymore!
I guess some people rather have gentle giants. The Hawk was a beast. ill take all those penalties just so the opposing team knows we out here to punish you
I agree, and people dont realize that though Goldson had his fair share of illegal hits... he also had a lot of clean hits that were flagged because of the new b******t soft nfl rules... its not his fault.. he played a certain style his entire life then the rules suddenly changed...

Goldson hits harder. Reid covers better. In today's NFL, where they're looking to flag the 'enforcers' for hard hits, you want the coverage guy.

Reid. I loved Goldsons hits, but he was unable to change with the league when with us. So many damn flags.

True, but what good is having a coverage guy who can barley stay on the field?

cover guy?? Reid??
The guy can't cover for crap.. he's always around the WR's ass when trying to cover a long pass.. the last play he made if i can remember was week 1 against Dallas.. 2 years ago.. no??
didnt some short scat back run him over on the sideline??

Lol wow... u really think reid at any point was better than Goldson in his prime? Please bro.... what were u watching??
PFF scores really dont mean s**t IMO watch the games. Goldson was an impact player. Opposing offenses feared him. Reid had just been "ok" at best.
Give me a break. Goldson was a reckless moron who committed stupid penalties every week. He took advantage of an elite front 7 and just hung back and played ball hawk, or just tried to lay a shoulder into someone. He couldnt tackle, and he couldnt cover. Both kind of important skills for a S to possess.
He was SO overrated. All the fans just loved his big hits and his dreads. He got exposed as a fraud the minute he left the Niners.
Remember all those times he got burned because he didnt know his assignent, and Whitner had to explain to him where he should've been?
The only thing opposing players ever "feared" about him was taking a late helmet to helmet shot in a defenseless position.
Reid has been mediocre, but he doesnt hurt us. Goldson killed us with penalties and poor coverage. Its just funny that people still remember Goldson like he was some elite player. I watched every game he ever played as a Niner, and was never fooled by it.
You do realize Goldson had a better yr than Reid this season right?
Nope.

Too bad the game isnt that simple. Theres a little more to playing S than tackle totals and number of INT's. Both of which vary based on opportunity.
BTW, I like how you call an accurate scouting system that media outlets, agents, and NFL front offices use "b******t stats", and then use tackle totals and INT's to determine player value.

My friend, I question if you were even a 49ers fan when we had Goldson. In no shape or form is eric reid better than goldson was, im sorry, and he is still arguably worse than goldson is today.. but keep believing what u want, agree to disagree.

If you honestly think Dashon Goldson did more good than harm while he played here, you didnt know what you were watching.
Eric Reid is an average player. Hes not great by any means, but hes a fundamentally sound player. Goldson played like a moron. He sucked at coverage. Thats a fact. He couldnt tackle. Thats a fact. He committed a TON of stupid penalties. Thats a fact. He killed us with his overly aggressive and sloppy style of play, and the PFF scouting numbers back up that opinion. He took advantage of the fact that our D was so good, he had the freedom to hang back and look for people to crush.
He was fun to watch, but he wasnt a good player. -66.0 for his career. Thats says it all.

Both good.
-Reid is a 1st RD pick so I expected more. I hope he just had a down year, due to different players and timing.
- Goldson puts fear in receivers eyes. Coverage was questionable, but run support was amazing.
So far I'm leaning towards Goldson due to the success of the defense we had when he was here. Reid had a good year also, but Goldsons was an enforcer.

I just read this and shook my head the whole time lol. Couldn't disagree more... Reid has the potential to be better but I doubt he ever will be
