Tartt is going to have to live with that dropped Int for a long time, however he played really well when he got back from injury.
His run fills are exceptional and his range allows Ryans to disguise coverage pre to post snap, I like Hufanga but that element doesn't exist with him.
I think we need Tartt back.

Tartts drop is gonna sting for a lot of people for a looonnggg time.
I get that but there was 9 minutes left in the game. The offense did absolutely nothing with multiple possessions but suddenly Tarttt coming down with the ball on the 49ers 30 yard line was going to be the difference between winning and losing? I don't buy it. He should have caught it but overall the defense held the Rams to 20 points. You should win that game every time.
That pick would have brought a lot of momentum. Pumped up the team & their half(+) of the crowd. Would have been a second INT rattling around in Stafford's noodle.
Is it the single reason for the loss? No. No single play ever is. Could it have made a huge impact? Yeah, most turnovers do.

Thumpers are not valued in today's league. How many interceptions did Dashon have after he left the luxury of having an elite front 7 and good scheme ? two picks in 3+ years with three teams
him and Whitner were always a liability in coverage. it's just back then coverage wasn't as important as it is now. And I'm not even a Tartt fan. His speed alone makes him a better player for today's NFL than either of Whitner or Goldson

We need him back. Its not a guarantee that we win the NFCCG if he catches that ball, like some claim it was.

lol, are we really comparing a guy dropping an interception that in no way guaranteed that the 49ers would hold on to win the game considering how their offense was looking versus a guy who botched two punt returns that led to the Giants scoring both times?
Yeah and considering if he doesn't make the ridiculous play on Aaron Jones we perhaps aren't even in the NFC Champ game. Pretty callous to just say dump him all his effort and he drops one ball?

Oh I'm not saying he dropped a Super Bowl trip....I agree with everything you said, but a turnover at that time is a massive game changing/momentum type play. It could've easily sparked the Niners and or sunk the Rams' spirits.
My comments were more directly towards how good of a duo Ward and Tartt were...especially since they had to cover up deficiencies in the secodary with the corner play for a good chunk of the season.
Jimmy wasn't going anywhere with the offense at that point. The OL was done and the Rams DL knew it.

Feel bad for the guy. I am sure he feels much worse. At the end of the day it was not a SB drop but a big momentum change which can sway a game. It may be time to upgrade from him only because its time not due to the drop.

I think its a need, but not an immediate one. CB, edge rusher, OL, more immediate needs. You can win a ton of games with Tartt and Hufanga backing him up. The way I look at it, they have plenty of needs as it is, no reason to create new ones.

Thats fair. I agree CB, OL and edge, possible RB, TE.

Gotta make a big time effort to find a CB, I think Ambry will make huge strides next year, how much does Williams have left in the tank?

I've always liked Tartt. Thought he was a very solid safety. Rarely, if ever got beat deep. Great in analyzing a play and coming up quick in run support.
But the biggest thing is turnovers. He doesn't create them. And that drop was the epitome of his career so far. In 80 career games, he only has 4 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. That's it. That's all.
He's still an above average safety, but he would be getting Ed Reed comparisons if he could make game changing plays.
