49AllTheTime: Why is it acceptable for you to rip Terrell Owens, but it isn't acceptable for Terrell Owens to "rip" Garcia?

Moreover, why is it OK for players around the league to take shots at Owens, or at other players around the league, which they do all the time, but it's not OK for Owens to take shots at Garcia?

Oh, and as for "why" go there: Try to stay with me here...put your thinking cap on....maybe it was because, *pssst*: He was asked in the interview if he thought Garcia might be gay based on the rumors that had been swirling around about him for years.

Wait, you didn't know that? You didn't know Jeff "Garthia," the single 34-year-old QB of the San Francisco 49ers, had tons of gay rumors about him?

Oh, and how about Owens addressing the media after the interview coming out?

"Owens backed off his comment to Playboy after the Eagles' practice Tuesday, saying, "My thing was I didn't say that he was gay. Like I said, the conversation and interview was loose and from my knowledge I'm not sure if Jeff is gay or not.'"

This doesn't count, because he once implied he thought Garcia might be gay when asked about it...right before saying he wouldn't have a problem with a gay teammate?

Totally unforgivable to answer a question about a guy who is as much your teammate as he is of anyone else in the world who isn't his teammate, and then clarify that he doesn't know the day after it comes out.

Meanwhile, Jeff Garcia gets a DUI of .237, was providing booze to underaged chicks he was hanging out with, had a habit of drinking during the season and was spotted out on Saturdays before the game drunk off his ass...how's that for a teammate?

I guess at least he's not Donovan McNabb, though, who has gotten TWO DUIs in a relatively short span of time, was spotted out drunk at the Maxim Super Bowl party, which probably played a role in him getting tired in the Super Bowl, which Hank Fraley and Freddie Mitchell let the world know about.

Ted Washington goes around to this day telling people Steve Young is gay. Talk to Ted Washington some time. Ask him if he thinks Steve Young is gay. He'll tell you. He also used to grope the team's gay trainer, Lindsey McClain.

Kevan Barlow and Fred Beasley had a public feud. Anyone remember that? I'm guessing you forgot about it. They got into a fist fight at a team meeting at one point. Beasley talked badly about him in the media. Beasley also feuded with Bishop Harris, the RBs coach during the Nolan era.

They hated each other but they both admired Owens. Just like almost everyone else on the team.

Oh, and how about Garcia referring to Owens as a "sickness" in 2003, when the media had him convinced that Owens had "hinted at a QB change" (he had not) when Owens gave a politically correct answer to the question?

Following 35-7 loss to Vikings, in which Garcia was benched for Rattay:

Q: Do you think it may be time for a quarterback change?

Owens: That's not my position to say we need a quarterback change, but Rat (Rattay) did a good job when he was in there. Whoever is in there, I'm going to catch the ball. Even if it's (Ken) Dorsey, I'm going to catch the ball. All of the quarterbacks can throw deep. It's all about timing.

Garcia, when lied to by media about what Owens had said:

"We can not allow this sickness to spread"

How about when Garcia insulted ownership after the 49ers had fired Mariucci, saying, "it's like we don't have a plan right now?"

How about Garcia's public feuds with Butch Davis and Jon Gruden?

How about McNabb on ESPN recently saying of his receiving corps before Owens got there, "and the receivers before him (Owens), we don't even need to talk about that?"

How about McNabb saying he thought the team would be "better off" without Owens when Owens was still on the roster, though suspended?

How about Jerry Rice saying of Steve Young in either 91 or 92, "he's a good RUNNING quarterback?"

How about Reggie White criticizing Randall Cunningham while they were Eagles teammates?

And did you ever read my link to all the players who anonymously bashed teammates and coaches in the media? Think about it; which would piss you off more: A player attaching his name to a critical comment about you he makes to the media, so you know who to go to if you want to confront him about it, or a player hiding behind anonymity and bashing you to the media?

You don't have a leg to stand on here. No amount of dismissiveness and emoticons will change the facts. Maybe it's time you reconsider your position, considering it should be obvious to you that you don't know 1% as much about this as I do?

Quick, everybody write a letter to congress asking for implying you think someone is a homosexual to be added to the criminal statute. Apparently it's worse to imply a drunk driver is a homosexual than it is to drive drunk.
TO needs to be in the hall, point blank. Yes, he's a man child with a penchant for getting underneath people's skin but as a player, he was simply incredible and deserves a spot in there.

Keeping him out simply because you don't care for his attitude is frankly hypocritical when guys like Michael Irvin, Cris Carter, Deion Sanders, etc. etc. got in. All were cokeheads and or major a*****es and it wasn't a problem for them. Hell, when you talk about a guy like Marvin Harrison, he BODIED some guy and still got in.

No disagreements about his attitude, but there is simply no credible argument for him not being in the HOF.

I disagree
there are currently people in the HOF who have had legal issues during their time in the NFL which should far outweigh anything TO did
People who get into the HOF should only be judged on their game, not anything else.
We already have the end of the season awards for players who are good people

@Lurker ... will you be singing the same tune next year at this time, if Ray Lewis, become a 1st ballot HOF'er ???

This what drives me crazy about the HOF selection process.

Yea, sure you lied under oath and destroyed evidence in a murder case before ultimately turning state's witness and snitching on your friends...............but man, what a great teammate.

Congrats Ray, you're in!

One event by different players still doesn't equal the "I love me some me decade" that TO has performed in his career

TO made his bed, now he has to sleep in it awhile. Who cares that he has to wait a couple years.

It's not like he gets a fat check and bunch of endorsements when he gets in

The HOF is a popularity contest and needs to be exposed for that.

He's absolutely right about Cris Carter and Cris was starting his career today, he would have been banned for repeatedly violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy. If they want the hall not to be a popularity contest then it needs to be based on accomplishment adjusted for era and situation. No internet, Facebook or Twitter in your era? Well you're in luck. I love Haley as a player, but as a person? He's closer to Aldon Smith. Same goes for Lawrence Taylor.

And yet his actions today are potentially hurting his chances for next season as well. What is missed in your post is how he used the media to call out other players or teammates. Something that I believe 99% of the time is kept in house and delt with as a team. His me first attitude is what's killing his HOF chances not his play on the field. HOF is not just about numbers or off the field but how you conduct yourself in locker rooms and with the media as they are the ones who vote.

Please don't compare Haley to Aldon, Haley was crazy but he wasn't a criminal like Aldon and he actually valued playing football.

I bet he can make money off of the title. Isn't he bankrupt?

I doubt it, if he can't get endorsements now then getting a yellow jacket will not open the flood gates

Bankruptcy ....So that means he won't be able to throw himself a HOF party if inducted. I wonder with all those good ties with teams and players will help him throw a party ?

I wonder what team he will give credit more when he gets in...
"What is missed in your post is how he used the media to call out other players or teammates."
Name one teammate Owens called out in the media. I'll save you some time: You can't, because it doesn't exist. Owens never called out a single teammate in his entire career.
However, plenty of other players did, including numerous guys who did it under the condition of anonymity. Some of these anonymous players may have been 1st ballot Hall of Famers. We don't know, because they were anonymous, and the media protected them. They didn't even have the accountability to attach their name to what they said.

"One event by different players still doesn't equal the "I love me some me decade" that TO has performed in his career"

You can't come up with a single instance of Owens criticizing a teammate in his entire career. You have no argument.
While people think TO needs say the Actual players name when ripping a player, he already was dividing locker rooms

An anonymous Cowboy spoke about the issue with Werder.
"He's insecure about it," the player said of Owens. "The thing that bothers me more than anything about this problem is that it's always something with him — San Fran, Philly and here; always something. And he brings other people into it. You know, he talks to Sam Hurd and Roy Williams, who just got here and doesn't really know these guys. TO talks to him and so now he probably thinks Witten politics with Tony for the ball. That's so far from the truth. You think Tony is throwing to him because that's his buddy? His best buddy is Bobby Carpenter, and that's not helping him too much. It's crazy to think that, and I hate that he acts that way."
Another team source told Werder that Owens failed to run a route to completion against Pittsburgh, leading to a Troy Polamalu interception. After the game, which the Cowboys lost on another Romo interception, Owens told reporters "It's his job to go out there and assess what the defense is, and he made that decision."
The anonymous player also spoke to Werder about Romo's response.
"To be completely honest, I just think Tony is over it; not like, 'Screw it.' But I think Tony is over the mind games,"' the player said. "It would help if Tony would stand up to him, but he would never do it. He does a great job of ignoring it and not letting it affect him, and that's why it has worked as good as it has. It's just hard. I think right now everybody is to the point where, "We're going to need him, so let's not piss him off."
Omg the special kid is an imposter on joecool's name?
He seems to be talking himself out of the Hall of Fame for good
