Marcus Peters Thread

The fact we pursued him even with a checkered pass means we are dead serious about upgrading the CB position with a high end player. Probably means we go hard after Johnson, Fuller and Butler. We should land 1 of those dudes.

So along with his 19 INT's Per @NFLResearch, since Marcus Peters entered the league in 2015 no player has more interceptions (19) or passes defensed (55), and his 51.9 completion % allowed is the 5th best.

Just stop already.

Dude you can throw out whatever numbers you want but every time I watch the kid play I see a good player who's a ball hawk but I have several players ahead of him, especially after last season.

A top 5 corner does not get traded with 2 years left on his rookie deal - end of story.

They have no money to pay him, have no 1st round pick and just traded for a CB in the Alex Smith trade.

Right. Beyond the FAs we've all been talking about, I wonder if there are any other potential trade options at CB that Lynch is eyeing...
Traded for a "package of picks". Curious to find out the compensation. Maybe two 3rds and a 4th?

Maybe but you make room for a kid like that if there isn't something behind the scenes.

We'll see how he does with the Rams and we'll see what the compensation is. If the talk of it being a first round pick is true then I'm glad we didn't make that trade. Hopefully we address the position in free agency and the draft and we look better for it.

He's also someone who is traded with 2 seasons(including 5th year option) on his rookie deal. What team trades a top 5 player before his rookie season runs out if they felt he was a top 5 player and didn't have a lot of extra baggage?

Maybe a change of scenery is what Peters needs but considering our issues with Foster adding a guy like Peters for some serious trade compensation(we'll see the specifics) IMO doesn't make sense for US. And what we do is what I care about.

Peters is overrated because of his interceptions. I guess everyone forgets what we experienced all year with our corners getting flagged non stop? Peters makes some great plays and then turns around and gives up a huge one. I'd have no issues with us bringing him in for a day 3 pick but the situation and compensation we're hearing doesn't make any sense.

Just stop.

IF you're gonna use PFF he was 17th this yr.

Who cares about top 5? The dude is a legit #1 CB and takes the ball away more than any other corner in the league. Guys like him rarely come up for trade or in free agency.

I like Trumaine Johnson but I DON'T like giving him 13 million dollars a year. And Malcolm Butler? No thanks.

The fact is there isn't another CB available near Peters ability

Better than any CB available this year.

We wouldn't be having this discussion had we just taken Lattimore like we should have instead of taking a redundant player with no position.

Truth bothers you?

In what world is Peters a top 5 corner?

Name the top 5 corners in the nfl

Hayward
Ramsey
Latt
Bouye
Talib
Rhodes
Peterson

I'd all have over him...it's all opinion based.

The Jags duo are easily better
Patrick Peterson
Marshon Lattimore i'd already have up over him
Chris Harris and Talib even though he's on the decline
Jimmy Smith was balling before getting hurt this year
Casey Hayward is doing work with the Chargers
Rhodes is a stud
William Jackson and Darius Slay are rising fast

Jason Verrett when healthy. TreDavious White. Josh Norman. Theirs a lot of good Cornerbacks. Peters is in my top 5 personally but it can be debated until were blue in the face. Some CBs such as Peters and the Jaguar DBs have the benefit of having a good consistent pass rush while PP21 and Darius Slay have a pretty weak pass rush which is a huge deal. Then looking at what your asking a corner to do. Are we basing it off of Man coverage? Then that would drop Sherman and Hayward. Ranking CBs is very subjective but those are all phenomenal Cornerbacks who do what they are asked to do at an extraordinary level.

Sure. And when will those guys be available??

If you want to talk about a head case let's talk about Talib. Plus he is What?? 32 years old?
Stats alone he is #1 and it's not even close.

If we get Johnson/Fuller/butler I'm cool with how everything worked out. I think Solly will be a very good player for a longtime.

Also if we're going off PFF (which isn't end all be all) He isn't the best player available in FA. Robinson/Gaines/Tailb/Melvin all will likely be available and ranked higher (Melvin was tied with Peters). Fuller was 21st.

none of those guys will cost us draft picks
