QB Josh Rosen

I like Penn St's QB McSorley, too. That said, I still think Cousins gives us the best chance to compete for playoffs. No matter who becomes our franchise QB, Lynch will need to shore up the C and possibly RG positions...next year Garnett will likely take over LG with Tomlinson to RG. C then becomes the key position to upgrade. The other big need is a WR. After watching the Penn St - Iowa game last night, I've definitely got a man-crush on Saquon Barkley. I can't think of a RB better suited for Shanahan's offense. Talk about your studs, Barkley's uber-studly.

lol, ya, "playing from behind" like the comeback vs Texas.

Rosen isn't considered good because of stats. It's his pocket awareness, footwork/mechanics and ability to spread the ball around. He's one of the better pocket passers we've seen over the last few years. It's not about stats.
Also, of course you're playing from behind when your defense sucks. If anything Rosen has that entire team on his shoulders each and every week.

We sometimes see poor or average passers hyped up becuase they have talent all around them on both sides of the ball. (Or because they're great runners) Rosen is not one of those QB's. He's literally the UCLA team and is a great pocket passer. No Rosen and they'd lose every week no question. He's a clear difference maker. He is THE difference maker on that team.

On the other hand the 2016 Clemson team could've won with any number of QB's. They're back at it again this year.

Give me the choice between Rosen, Watson or Kizer and I'll take Rosen 100 times of 100. Last years QB class was weak- which is why we didn't draft QB early. The top QB (Trubisky) showed promise but only had one season. Most of the other QB's were system QB's or relied on rushing/broken plays too much which isn't a fit for our offense.

I'm extremely happy we didn't draft Watson or Kizer. I wouldn't have taken Trubisky at #2. Too much of a gamble to bet the future of our franchise on a QB with only one year starting experience in college -with a possible choice between Cousins, Rosen and Darnold in 2018 it was the right choice to skip on Trubisky.

Mahomes wouldn't have been a good pick at #2 and doesn't fit our offense. I'm not even sure why Reid took him unless he plans on tweaking his offense. He hasnt played a real NFL game yet so who knows what sort of QB he'll be. He's good at playing outside of structure and has a great arm. So was Kaepernick his rookie year. I think it may have been a reaction to dealing with Alex Smiths short "safe" passes for so long. That pick seems to have lit a fire under Smith's ass.

Anyway, we need a cerebral pocket passer for our offense. Best fit in 2016 was Trubisky but again, one year experience is even more risky than taking a guy with 2 or 3 years starting. It would've been a huge gamble with better or safer options in 2018.

Rosen is by far the best fit for our offense and if he's given some good blocking/WR's he won't have to play hero ball. Darnold could be a good fit if he can learn to rely on his pocket game more often rather than scrambling behind the line or rolling right. He also makes some poor throws into coverage more than I'd like to see and his mechanics can be sloppy when he has a clean pocket. I think he's a tad like Wentz and Russ Wilson. Rosen is like Ryan and Rodgers coming out of college.

Do they ever? Each year its "wait until next years class its amazing".

Seriously every year same ol song and dance

And then they actually play and we find out they're not so bad. Only truly 'bad' QB class in recent memory was 2013

Which 2016 QB plays better than Rosen? Trubisky might come close, he certainly showed a lot of promise in 2016 but with that small a sample size you don't know if it was a flash in the pan or if that's the sort of game he'll bring to the NFL. Trubisky had a very decent WR group and put up some good numbers his only year starting but would you really bet the future of your franchise on a one year QB?

If Cousins, Darnold and Rosen weren't on the table for 2018 I'd probably take Trubisky at #2 in the draft (out of pure necessity) but I wouldn't feel good about any of the other QB's taken in that class.

If we took any of the other QB's we wouldn't have Thomas and Foster. Are Watson, Mahomes or Kizer good fits for Shanahan's offense? Were they worth the #2 or #3 pick? No way.

The whole Cousins thing was also a factor. Anyway, watch Trubisky and Rosen's college tape. Don't just look at the stats. Look at the talent they have around them. The blocking (or lack thereof), their WR's/TE's, their footwork/mechanics...how many NFL throws do they make into tight windows? What sorts of defenses did they face? What kinda running game did they have to lean on? What sort of defense did they have? Did they have to carry the whole team? How many drops etc? What kinda offensive systems did they run?

There's more to it than stats and or the teams record at the end of the year. Scouts know what to look for and I'm pretty sure they see what I see in Rosen.
I love Rosen would love Bryce love in 2new or 3rd as well also burnette.. we need weapons maybe use free agency for some o line help as well as a lb to replace bowman
How does Cleveland manage to get the first overall pick year after year, how does a team suck so much after picking that high all the time?

The last QB who the 49ers drafted was Alex Smith who was from San Diego, then before that was Ken Dorsey. So glad the 49ers didn't draft Aaron Rodgers or traded up for Jared Goff, that sure would've sucked!!!

Rodgers is a bust. He has only won 1 overtime game. Goff is a bust. Jeff Fisher is a great offensive mind, if he can't do anything with Goff nobody can. Alex Smith is a loser. That guy can't win games to save his life!

Garrett was the first #1 pick they have had since 2000. Not like it is a regular occurrence.

Right. Those California QBs just suck. Just ask Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.
