what 2nd round pick have we hit in awhile, can't remember. So getting JG is already a steal

Well, Niners traded up from that 2nd round pick the last two years for Garnett (we'll see) and Foster (looks good so far when he's healthy)...so kinda hard to judge.

About the only thing that bothers me about this trade is it could preclude them from doing what they've done the last two years and trading back up into the first round for a guy who might be falling (ALA Reuben Foster).

already addressed my pleasure in another thread so no need to repeat. a wise much needed move. to help us short term and hopefully long term and also i think the powers to be knew many fans were upset with 0-8 and needed a ray of hope. but that is just speculation on my part. lynch did a good job and now i hope he will be just as good in trading our top pick for multiple picks for the various holes in our team

ShannyLynch were also scared of the 0-16 which was a very real possibility.

Correct.....but how did they get those picks?

Losing that high 2 might prevent them from trading up into round one again.

I like the trade. Just saying that not having that pick does have repercussions.

Are you trying to say that trading a second round pick for a first round pick, makes the player a 2nd round pick?

What I am trying to say is when you suck at picking in the second round, trade the pick for proven players or trade back into the first round which is an easier pick for novice gm's.

Bourne gave up #10.

or there could be a chance to trade down and load up on picks

either way we still got two 2nds, we just drafted one of our 2nd picks a lot earlier

Agreed. You have to take a shot on a QB at some point and clearly management identified JimmyG, a player with a limited but successful resume and the praise of a world class organization, as being a more attractive option than using an early first round pick on one of the QB in this years draft. What they've actually bought is an 8-game audition and the option to extend him if he is what they think he is.

If Jimmy does prove himself to be the man in SF then nothing else matters and it's a great move.

To address your scenario I suppose the 49ers could trade out of the top 5 to accumulate other picks and get a 2nd rounder back anyways. Barkley is great but Shanahan comes from his dad's school of thought and so I doubt he'd even be an option for San Francisco. Perhaps Key or one of the top OT's.
