I personally wouldn't bet on it.

Best chance all year I think though.

Thoughts....

Creative approach to kick the tires on Jimmy G and get a head start on Free Agency in 2018.

Draft flexibility is also nice. Draft BPA and don't reach on QB. Hopefully trade down for a QB needy team.

Agree, but the D still needs to show up, Fitz always has a huge day against us.

Sounds ideal doe no? Who knows AZ can be planning their own low key tank... Arians probs retires so might as well try to hand them off a top 3-5 pick while he calls it quits.

At this point the tank is less valuable than assessing Jimmy the rest of the season and letting him get his feet wet as a 49er. Time to start building for next season on the chemistry front.

I would be fine with winning a couple games if it means Jimmy G looks like a FQB, and the team looks happy and rallys behind him.

That is much more important to me than potentially dropping a couple of draft spots.

I say just tag him... Even if youre over paying. Youre saying we got full faith in you, etc. Etc.

Getting a top 2 pick and have the option of trading down for picks/getting your guy still or landing an elite player is huge. We have the cap space so its okay to over pay by placing the tag on him.

You guys keep talking about "athletic freaks," like when I talk about great athletes I'm just referring to combine numbers.

I'm talking about talent. When Steve Young can hit a specific molecule from 40 yards away while blindfolded, that's an athletic talent. When John Taylor can break 4 tackles after the catch, that's an athletic talent. When Jerry Rice can accelerate and leave people in the dust, that's an athletic talent.

When Chris Hogan runs into a vacated hole in the zone because of the play design killing the defensive play called and is wide open, that's not a talent.

Why is hogan not an athlete though? What about him doesn't make him very athletic? Isn't the combine where you determine who's the "athlete"? Hogan's nickname is 7-11 because he's always getting open lol.

Jerry Rice would have started for every other team in football.

The Patriots, on the other hand, take journeyman scrap heap, feature it, and go to conference championship games and Super Bowls with it.

Chris Hogan couldn't even start on the Bills. He is not a good starting NFL receiver. But the Patriots could get him 100+ catches for 1200 yards if they wanted to.

Couldn't get it from Chad Johnson
Your guys' discussion...
Greg cosells unbiased opinion on KNBR, he has some great things to say about jimmy G, its making me salivate.

Kyle Shanahan on Jimmy Garoppolo: "I can't promise that he'll play this year."

Why would you put him behind Tomlinson-Kil(QB)gore and Fu(cksup)co?

Don't buy it for a second.

Kyle is ready to win.

He will play against the Giants. Worse case scenario after the bye week.

"We didn't bring him here to safe our season" ~ Kyle

Obviously lol. And you left out the rest of the statement which provides context.

Some of you are really reading too much into this coach speak.

Coach will start him when he is obviously a better option to start than CJ, which will likely be in time for the Giants game. After the Bye week at the latest.

It will be obvious he is light years ahead of CJ by the end of the week. Every player on the roster will realize it.

Im really not sure why some question this. There is no way they are just gonna ride CJ out the rest of the year.

I'm certainly not arguing that. But just be prepared and don't be shocked if he doesn't play. JG wants to play. Kyle wants him to play. But his agent may not want him taking one snap until he's secured. There was a reason Paraag was sitting next to Lee at the presser. Negotiations for a potential FQB could take months. And deep down, that could be best from Kyle's perspective...that is, not rush him here. ShanaLynch are clearly thinking long term here and even going 0-16 is beneficial to that goal.

But we'll see what happens. It could go either way.

Yeah, it could be mentally tough...but that just means you get the nerdier players instead of the physically talented ones. To me, that's everything that is wrong with sports. I watch sports to see great athleticism competing against great athleticism, not everything being about some coach outthinking the other one.

When Chris Hogan succeeds and Chad Johnson fails, that system is bad for sports.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

of course. So their defense also can get by with little talent since you said that defense was a gimmick? Just want to get things clear so I don't misunderstand.

Yep. There's a reason Belichick is able to take Troy Brown or Julian Edelman and line them up at corner.

So if a scheme requires a lot of thinking then it's a gimmick offense/defense? Yeah, from reading your posts that's what you mean. Have a good day. Go 49ers!

Hogan is faster and stronger than Johnson but Johnson is the better athlete?

I am calling BS.

Hogan:
At his 2011 Pro Day, Hogan pumped out 28 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. For reference, hundreds receivers have participated in the NFL combine since 2011, and none have matched Hogan's total on the bench.

40 Yrd Dash: 4.50

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan is a freak athlete
