Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Los Angeles Rams

Shop 49ers game tickets
You have to assume the Niners have already discussed ballpark figures to re-sign Jimmie. They wouldn't give up a 2nd Rounder to let him walk in eight games.

With our starting QB locked in for the next few years then you can also assume we are going to trade down in 2018's draft. We could expect a trade like this:

The Titans in 2016 received a package from the Rams that included two first-round picks, two second-round picks and two third-round picks for their shot at Jared Goff with the first selection.
The Browns traded with the Eagles for the No. 2 pick in that draft (Carson Wentz) for two firsts, a second and a fourth.

Giving up the 2nd Rounder this year will come back to us (and more) don't you worry!

Seriously. Liked a 2nd is a risk anyhow. We have another one. For a potential FQB?

Are you kidding me?

Over 50% of QB's taken in the 1st round bust. When they do, not only are you still looking for a new QB, you're out a very early draft pick. There isn't an Andrew Luck in this draft class or anyone that looks like a surefire franchise QB. They all come with major question marks. With Garoppolo you're taking a risk, but you're risking a lot less overall in terms of draft value and getting a guy who already has NFL experience and has gotten tremendous coaching too.

The 49ers by trading Garoppolo keep their high 1st round pick and can use it to shore up an area of need with a top prospect or trade back and get a bounty of picks in return.

And if you f**k up with a QB drafted in 1sr round - it sets you back 3 years at the minimum.

If Garoppolo looks lost out there - we can quickly go back to drawing board and draft a QB. All we lost is a 2nd round pick. Worth it.

If he was that great the Pats wouldn't have traded him

True.

I guess something better than nothing.

He wanted to get paid, free agent after season. Pats wanted something for him.

Getting #1 was only important if Rosen or Darnold were the clear cut top players in the draft. We no longer need either of those 2 players.

I hope we finish this season strong and build momentum going into next season.

Momentum next season. Right now we need moar picks . MOAARRR PICKS

Or The Playmaker

High draft picks are always good, but at some point you need to develop a winning culture or all the losing will become accepted in your locker room. We don't won't to become the Browns.

Please don't play this guy this year

Why? Need to see how a guy performs when not everything is going perfectly. Get a real good idea how good he is.

They just paid a 2nd round for him. They better darn well know how good he is.

Our OLine can get him killed this year and for what. Nope. Hard pass. Sit him all year

Niners have leverage on a long term deal for Garoppolo.

Huge risk for JG to go play games this season without a new deal. He's in a new system, behind a bad line...won't get a chance to look his best for the market. He will be incented to sign something.

Would imagine a deal similar to Kaepernick. A multi-year deal that allows the Niners to get out at any point relatively easily.
Did I hear Schefter say "for the 2nd of their 2nd round picks" on Monday night halftime report???

I'm surprised, honestly. I thought they were all going to say they fleeced us.

I think their argument is that if they knew Jimmy was leaving regardless of contract talks, than they should have traded him earlier where they could have gotten more from the trade. They are just as surprised as we are.
Got a veteran guy that knows what a winning culture is like. We had no one like that other than Staley and the long lost Bowman.

I think he definitely has more leverage as we just gave up a high pick 4 him

I agree completely. But, we do that next year.

Like that backup QB in New England who has looked like a stud every chance he's gotten to play.

If the 49ers continue to suck, they'll be in a position where they can trade back with a team moving up for a QB. They could get back that 2nd they traded for Garoppolo and a whole lot more, which will allow them to attack all their many needs. Addressing OL, WR, pass rusher.....etc.

If Garoppolo works out and they are able to rack up picks from trading down, years from now this could be looked at as the move that helped revive the franchise. Fingers crossed, hoping Pretty Jimmy goes beast mode and becomes everything that Kyle hopes he could be.

Hey Phoenix, I love the trade but feel what you stated has one draw back. It will hurt us trying to trade back with a team that wants a QB. Now hopefully the team after us will need one or there will be multiple teams wanting to move up to get one. The fact will be now that we won't take a QB. May hurt us there.
