Hey Phoenix, I love the trade but feel what you stated has one draw back. It will hurt us trying to trade back with a team that wants a QB. Now hopefully the team after us will need one or there will be multiple teams wanting to move up to get one. The fact will be now that we won't take a QB. May hurt us there.

Certainly didn't hurt Tennessee when they traded down with St Louis. The leverage that exists is multiple teams wanting QB's and there will be several teams needing one. Teams like the Jets, the Cards, Dolphins and several others could be thinking QB and with there looking to be two or three guys worth taking that early, the 49ers could have the supply to fill the demand. I doubt they'd get an RG3 type deal but I'd be perfectly content with a Goff or Wentz type compensation.

True.

I guess something better than nothing.

I so disagree with this. The Pats felt they could keep him as the replacement for Brady. If not why did they not trade him when his value was higher last year. They now see he wont resign because rightfully he wants to start. The Pats over played their hand here.

I don't think Jimmy could actually just come in here and start right away I would figure CJ got one last chance.

I wouldn't want Garoppolo out there until Staley and Brown are both healthy, at minimum. I would also hope that Lynch brings in some street OL free agents to work out and see if they can't replace one of the least performing guys on the roster.
we need to focus on the offense this off season. OL and any weapons we can get our hands on. Any potential big name receivers with expiring contracts?

The Patriots had two choices, Trade Brady or trade Garoppolo. You don't trade a player who is currently the BEST QB in the league.

They could not afford to keep both, and had no other choice but to move one. This isn't like Cassel, who most felt was a solid back up who only got traded because his former OC got the job as headcoach and wanted a familiar face at QB.

Jimmy had first round grades by many evaluators and has done nothing to decrease his value since joining the league.

Once again, this trade has nothing to do with Garoppolo and everything to do with not wanting to part ways with Brady.

Did I hear Schefter say "for the 2nd of their 2nd round picks" on Monday night halftime report???

We had 2 2nd round picks. Ours and the saints.

But is it the Saints one? That would be fantastic.

If Garoppolo wants to play it is possible that he wasn't going to be content sitting around and waiting for Brady to retire in 2 or 3 years. Garoppolo is already 26 and has spent 3 and a half seasons as a backup. I wouldn't blame him for being impatient and wanting to lead his own team finally.
Imagine if we trade him to Cle for 2 first rounders lol
Just listened to Tom Brady on the Westwood 1 halftime interview with Jim Gray. Brady sounded legitimately surprised and fairly pissed. I think we just landed a QBotF for a 2nd round pick.......YES, YES, YES!!!!

Just a matter of days now, before the Pats trade Brady to CLE and announce Hoyer the starter.

Absolutely. If this guy doesn't see the field this year it will absolutely be fine by me

Albert Breer was just on an interview on KNBR. He stated you can name all those quarterbacks that learned under Brady and then left. They were just quarterbacks that they were hoping could turn into something. Jimmy Garoppolo was the first that they drafted with the intent to be Tom Brady successor
