IMO the compensation isn't really the issue. My issue is, that we are now all in with Jimmy for better or worse. Ideally we're not in the position to draft this high again for a long time, so to pass on the opportunity of the pick of the litter on what WAS supposed to be an excellent QB class is a little scary. I just DON'T want to have what happened to

Supposed to and is are two different things. The QB class looked far better a year ago when nobody was actually nitpicking these guys. It doesn't look so hot right now. Every single QB comes with real concerns and defects. There isn't an Andrew Luck or even a Marcus Mariota. Some good prospects but really Lamar Jackson is the only one who has stepped his game up to a higher level this year. Darnold looks set to return to school and there are concerns with Rosen and his temperament and willingness to take to coaching.

If there was a consensus type prospect like a Luck, I'd be somewhat upset as well but it really looks like a crapshoot and if Garoppolo is who Shanahan wants, I'm down. Now the 49ers can go BPA with their 1st rounder, whether that be a Barkley or a top edge rusher or OL....etc. Or they can trade back and recoup that pick and then some.

the Browns happen to us when they passed on Wentz and the fans our going to have to watch his career flourish for a long time thinking what could have been.

Right now Browns fans are pissed that their team couldn't work out a deal for Garoppolo. As long as the 49ers can protect Jimmy G and put some weapons around him, I think he has the ability to thrive in this offense.

Or trading down with a team that wants a QB and getting that extra 2nd rounder right back and then some.

This would be the best move of all. This OPENS the draft. Pass-rusher, OT and now frees up other areas too we can consider LB or CB or WR.

If we could move down a spot or two and still get Barkley

I didn't see your post. Are you suggesting that we would still use our first pick on a QB this year? I honestly hope not.

No. I think what it means is that the 49ers aren't locked in to having to draft a QB in the 1st round. They can address any number of positions as well as trading back in the draft to acquire more picks. They can leverage other teams need at QB to accelerate the rebuilding process with a whole bunch of picks to build the roster around Jimmy G.

So happy and smashed right now....we better draft Oline with the top pick.....three potential top 10 OT's this year.

Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame 6-8 320
Orlando Brown, OT, Oklahoma 6-8 350
Conner Williams, OT, Texas 6-6 295

Of course the Browns "leaked" that info. Why would they want the story to be they offered more (has always been the story and not denied until tonight) and couldn't get a deal done?

They should unretire 12. The was average and most fans don't even know who he is lol. I feel like almost all numbers should be unretired after a certain amount of years.

No. People should educate themselves. That's a big part of why numbers are retired, so later generations of fans can learn the team history. Brodie was a league MVP.

As for retiring numbers in general, I'm also in favor of changing the process to have a ring of honor type situation without the numbers going out of circulation, but if no changes are to be made to the system you don't just unretire a number because fans are ignorant.

Are you arguing that the Patriots should have traded Brady instead while he is still balling out? Or are you arguing that the Patriots should have been willing to spend $40 million on the QB position just to hold on to Garoppolo despite Brady not showing any signs of slowing down.

What are you arguing?

Just love the way these so called BANDWAGON FANS suddenly are jumping for joy when the trade happens, when the same exact fans were laughing at MY idea even before the draft that we should trade for Grappy...

Had we done that, we could have extend his contract already... packaged Staley Reed Bowman and or Armstead and my original idea of a 2nd round...

as happy as I am the it did go thru, now what??? Just how much would he cost if he goes 4-4 this season..

Wasted money on Hoyer, and wasted money on our FB (Jurrasic) !!!

WELCOME GRAPPPY !!!!!

It was reported they tried to resign him but couldn't get a deal done...he wants to start and Brady clearly isn't going anywhere.

Once a deal wasn't gonna get done they asked for a trade...adam schefter reported it at half time on MNF tonight.

SO no they didn't want to move him but didn't have a choice

so, we can do it still

We can front load contracts all we want, but the only thing that impacts our cap room 5 years from now is how much money a player is paid over the 5 years, not when it was paid. $10 million in cap spent in 2018 is equivalent to $10 million spent in 2020 if we're looking at cap room in 2020 and beyond. You and others are acting like spending money now doesn't impact our future cap space.
it does. I'm saying.. say we give him 25 guaranteed of a 50 mill 3 year contract. 20 in the 1st, 2.5 in yr 2 and 3.

we would only be out 2.5 in years 2/3 in dead cap space if it doesn't work out (cut)

Good lord, I'm done trying to explain anything to you. Either way, we owe the 25 in guaranteed money over the first 3 years. Who cares how much of it counts as dead cap space in years 2 and 3? Money we spend in year 1 has the exact same impact on our future cap space as dead cap in years 2 and 3.
you are not explaining it well because how is 25 guaranteed money in year one be 25 guaranteed money in year 3 ?
I think it's best to sit him till next year. Fans will turn on him quick if he only gets us to 1 win this year lol
