Does this mean Barkley shoots to the top of our draft board next year?

Sneaky Bill might be. Backup quarterbacks in limited action always look better than they are because their coaches can call a game to their strengths, and defensive coordinators don't know their weaknesses.

But, he's only got him for eight more games, because Garoppolo will leave for a starting gig, and Belichick has a long history of never overpaying for anybody. He would not pay him starter money, or franchise him, while Brady can play.

I expect Garoppolo will want to stay with Kyle. I'm not sure how good he is, and Kyle did rate him behind Carr. But, I consider it a good gamble.

Every single QB comes with real concerns and defects. There isn't an Andrew Luck or even a Marcus Mariota. Some good prospects but really Lamar Jackson is the only one who has stepped his game up to a higher level this year. Darnold looks set to return to school and there are concerns with Rosen and his temperament and willingness to take to coaching.

If there was a consensus type prospect like a Luck, I'd be somewhat upset as well but it really looks like a crapshoot and if Garoppolo is who Shanahan wants, I'm down. Now the 49ers can go BPA with their 1st rounder, whether that be a Barkley or a top edge rusher or OL....etc. Or they can trade back and recoup that pick and then some.

the Browns happen to us when they passed on Wentz and the fans our going to have to watch his career flourish for a long time thinking what could have been.

Right now Browns fans are pissed that their team couldn't work out a deal for Garoppolo. As long as the 49ers can protect Jimmy G and put some weapons around him, I think he has the ability to thrive in this offense.

lol this happens every year, including this past draft. but guaranteed there's going to be at least 3 QBs picked in the 1st.

But Jesus Christ couldn't play behind our o-line right now. Best we keep modest expectations lol

Are you saying Jesus Christ couldn't evade the rush?

No. He'd get.... crucified out there.

Sure there will. The demand is too high for there not to be. Doesn't mean this is a particularly great class. None of these guys is playing up to the level of a Watson or Trubisky from last year's "terrible" QB class. I think both Rosen and Jackson can be successful in the right situation but I'm happy perfectly happy keeping that 1st rounder and adding a guy like Garoppolo who was a prototypical WCO prospect coming out in the draft.

CJ's a rookie though so he'll learn.
Finally a little somethin to be excited for.

And no thanks to drafting Barkley with a top 3 pick.

Trade back and draft OL, ER and WR.

Certainly didn't hurt Tennessee when they traded down with St Louis. The leverage that exists is multiple teams wanting QB's and there will be several teams needing one. Teams like the Jets, the Cards, Dolphins and several others could be thinking QB and with there looking to be two or three guys worth taking that early, the 49ers could have the supply to fill the demand. I doubt they'd get an RG3 type deal but I'd be perfectly content with a Goff or Wentz type compensation.

I said this in an earlier post, but I agree. The 2nd Rounder we just gave up, we should get it back by trading down. There will be teams wanting to trade up for a QB.

IMO the compensation isn't really the issue. My issue is, that we are now all in with Jimmy for better or worse. Ideally we're not in the position to draft this high again for a long time, so to pass on the opportunity of the pick of the litter on what WAS supposed to be an excellent QB class is a little scary. I just DON'T want to have what happened to the Browns happen to us when they passed on Wentz and the fans our going to have to watch his career flourish for a long time thinking what could have been.

Like I explained a few pages back, no we are not. Kyle has alot of choices now.
I didn't see your post. Are you suggesting that we would still use our first pick on a QB this year? I honestly hope not.

Kid9er

I don't think he is........ To play devils advocate here. If we picked top five with a QB would be better or worse. Are you sure they have what it takes to be the next great QB. Me personally I so struggle with this because the college and NFL QBing don't mesh. So there is risk no matter what we do.
