Mac Jones-QB-Jaguars

Imagine you are an NFL team like Denver, SF, DAL or ATL with some legit talent at the skill position players. You have the option to acquire an athletically gifted QB who may blow up the league his first year, but you know that in order to have long-term success, the QB will need to:

  1. develop better fundamentals,
  2. tighten his throw,
  3. and show that he can process and execute how defenses react to NFL route combinations.

That's 3 traits that the team hopes the QB will develop AFTER being drafted.

Or you draft the QB who has slightly a hair above average mobility in the pocket AND already has shown these traits. Do you want to wait a few years before all that talent you have NOW at your skill positions can be used properly?

Too many times, we have seen athletically gifted QBs light it up that first year only to have NFL defenses catch up to them and force them to be pocket QBs. At the end of the day, if a QB is not able to properly distribute the ball accurately and on time, that team will always be in that 7-9 win abyss because the QB is talented enough to not lose too many games, but not polished enough to allow the talent on offense to dominate.

I still just can't wrap my head around how much capital we gave up for #3. Unless it's Fields it's a total crapshoot as to the talent going between 4-12 with Jones being the least talented one.

just giving up 1 first we could've locked in 6 which would've virtually guaranteed one of the 5 qb's. Had 1 not fallen you have your pick of Sewell / Pitts / Chase who are 3 blue chip top 5 guys in any draft.

#3 is the least value pick of this entire draft - really right around 8 is the sweet spot given the 5 qb's and 3 blue chippers. This reeks of a b******t Kyle move which is typical for a HC that has too much influence on the draft - throw value out the window.

Yup. Safe bet. Then again, he'll probably be sitting all year so it'll just be hypothetical cries.

plenty of pass-protection tears though....that's gonna flood the streets for yrs under Jones. I can see it now lol.

Brother please. Like the 20 pocket passers he's brought in, Kyle has his blind spots. That will ALWAYS be an issue here, unfortunately, no matter the QB. I've accepted that for years.

Lol you've accepted it....I don't believe that for a second.

it's only gonna be intensified with Jones

So, we gonna draft the most pro-ready QB in the draft - only to sit him all year? Lol...that'll be very dumb.
Going to go out on a limb and say if Mac Jones skin was just a tad darker no one would be calling him a super genius QB.

He's not going to sit the entire year. Either he will win the job in preseason, or replace Garoppolo after.
I'm just wondering if John Lynch and Adam Peters were on board with the Mac Jones decision when the trade was made (if it is Mac Jones)

Unless there's already a trade deal for Jimmy in Lynch's back pocket. If the Patriots don't get their QB, Jimmy's trade stock will raise.

What if NE's QB is gone by their pick and they give us pick 15 for JG!!!???

Um a head to head win in the national championship. Barely even a competitive game.
That was easy

Using another Ohio St. QB as an example, Dwayne Haskins was called a Below-average athlete.

Examples? Watson, Allen (didn't light it up year 1) ,and Jackson seem to be doing OK. Just trying to think of the guys who "lit it up in year one" and then stunk. Outside of Kap can't really think of any.

Ask Andy Reid. As Cossell said about Allen, athletic ability gives you a higher floor than you would otherwise.
