Question: What happened when one thing wasn't perfect for Patrick Mahomes in the Superbowl last year, unlike the year before when it was.

Same fans: "Yeah but he tried really hard. It wasn't his fault they lost."

Don't embarrass yourself like this. He had a PRACTICE SQUAD offensive line. "One thing going wrong" would be the top WR being schemed out by the defense. A practice squad Oline is a full on nuclear power plant melt down.

Hilarious. Mike Person, Ben Garland and the worst graded pass protection G in football in Laken Tomlinson.

Yet, the POINT is, one key piece wasn't perfect, and a "mobile QB" couldn't transcend that despite every other aspect of the team being better or the same from the previous Superbowl team.

So that argument needs to be thrown out for both QB's...hence why football is still a team game.

Some men are leaders, some men are followers. If you accept that to be true in life, then you can accept that is also the case in football. QBs tend to by default have a leadership role. There are things that appear to separate him from Tua, but I don't know enough about the other QBs in this draft to say who is a better leader. I will say that Mac has done things I have not heard of other QBs doing. I am not a Bama fan, I actually went to Auburn so am the opposite of a Bama fan. But off the top of my head.... it has been well noted that he "owned" the scout team, and would refuse to loose....even when directed to loose. Challenging Saban directly. He pushed the defense with off script plays and challenged them in ways his predecessor did not. I have never heard of that happening on any program before. It has also been noted that he refused to come off the field, even after a hit that eventually sent him to the hospital for mouth surgery. He is not a guy that will quit or come off the field needlessly. That reminded me of Steve Young not coming off in 93 after getting destroyed in the second or 3rd game of that season. Finally it is documented that after his DUI he went 100% in on football, to the point he lived and breathed football non-stop. His informal practices grew to the point other players came in to work with him.

I am sure he is not the first guy to do these things, but these are examples of leadership. I am pretty certain what took place on the Scout Team likely does not happen regularly with Saban....that is really note worthy, and I wonder how often that even happened.

Clearly Mac is a lead by example type and clearly has the attention and respect of his peers. I would suspect Leadership IS one of his strong points.

I have no idea how we would say one example of leadership is stronger then another players example of leadership, unless there was an obvious lack of leadership.

Mac absolutely has a narrative written around him, and without being in his orbit....there is no telling what is hype or propaganda. My personal biggest knock on the guy is going to be the "frat" boy persona and that DUI. People grow and Mature, but that is the biggest negative that sticks with me on Jones.

I personally think leadership is immensely important, but I have no idea what is propaganda or fact regarding Mac. Both Mannings had massive gravity and leadership, You could see that at any SEC function. Aaron Rodgers was clearly the Alpha at the combine and behind the scenes with the other QBs at the QB challenge. With Mac, in my case, it's only what i have read, and i am not sure i believe everything i read about him.

Absolutely a team game. Which is why the focus should always be building the best TEAM you can and not picking based on need.

Yup.
Amazing that we feel the need to talk about our suspect offensive line in Mac Jones thread. Thank you for confirming the obvious.

We beat all the pocket passers in 2019 when our defense was at its best. The mobile QBs beat us. The game has changed. We have to be honest and adapt

Ah, so I take it the Ravens or Bills win the SB this year

But he did transcend that "one key piece" letting him down. It wasn't just the o-line, his receivers dropped multiple would-be TD passes on perfectly placed balls (all 3 were catches a child could make). He couldn't transcend being let down by everyone else on the offense.

To equate Jimmy's pure crappiness in the 4th quarter with Mahomes' literal heroics is criminal. Just because Jimmy's o-line wasn't great in that game doesn't mean the two situations were remotely the same.

And if you're drafting a QB in 2021, he better be able to make plays like the above or he's not worth the pick.

I don't disagree with your point but you think children make those catches??? Especially the 2nd one??

Yup.

If you take away Mahomes' mobility and his ability to do a 12 step drop on the Wasp play (or give him Mac Jones' arm strength) he loses the SB against the Niners as well.

Matt Rhule loved the kid at the Sr Bowl.

"Mac Jones' left leg, the one that housed a sleeve in most of the College Football Playoff, caught Matt Rhule's attention on the first day of Senior Bowl practice. So much, in fact, the Carolina Panthers' head coach, who is leading the American team in Mobile, Ala., asked the now-former Alabama quarterback what happened. Jones casually responded, "turf burn."

Players are limited or unable to participate in the week-long lead-up to the all-star game for seniors for various reasons. But few still wear the wounds from a national championship game.

"The guy was just playing two weeks ago," Rhule told reporters on Wednesday. "The fact that he's here, I think, speaks a lot about who he is. You get a chance to see his intelligence. He makes really quick decisions. He processes information quickly, highly intelligent. He's an alpha. He's the first guy on the practice field. He's the first guy in the runnings.

"He's got a lot of really, really, really strong traits."
