Darnold + $17M in cap savings = Darnold + FA Edge + FA Center. And they can still draft a QB. Or, you can spend $54M/2 years on JG

You forgot......and pray he's not the turnover machine, poor decision maker, sack taker, liability he's been at the most important position. Oh, and also hope he learns the system well enough to not set us back to a mediocre team

Just curious, which of those don't apply to Jimmy?

Just curious if you even watched both play. Darnold is a laughing stock and Jimmy is a solid quarterback. That could apply to a lot of quarterbacks except one of them is better by a decent margin and makes less of those laughable plays.
Call me crazy but should the Niners just go with Rosen as their starter? Cut or trade Jimmy and your cap problems go away. Niners can re-sign both Trent Williams and Verrett and maybe even Kwaun. And still have cap space left over. If they hit lightning in a bottle they are golden because they will have their QB who is dirt cheap who is only 23 and be able to build a team around him. Worse case it backfires and the Niners get another top draft pick.

Maybe, next year - this year he has to get down Shanny's offense.

You seem to use that phrase 'ever watch any football' in most of your rebuttals. I've watched plenty of Darnold, both at USC and NYJ. I would call JG an average QB, not solid. And with all the issues that Darnold has I still think he has more potential than JG. Plus, you save $17M. Who do you think would justify more in trade value ?
No. I want Lynch to feel so backed into a corner to do something big that he feels he absolutely MUST acquire one of Watson/Wilson/Fields by trading significant draft capital.

Next options would be Lance/Jones, and if he cannot acquire any of those five QBs by the time the draft ends, fine go ahead and trade for Darnold for a 2022 3rd/4th if they don't want Jimmy.

Trading for Darnold now prevents Lynch from considering trading up for Wilson/Fields or getting Lance/Jones. I don't want this. Let the Stafford trade marinate and Lynch feel the massive pressure to go huge at QB.
We aren't trading big time draft capital for a QB on another team or high in the draft. It seemed like we might go forward with Jimmy, Rosen, and a rookie like Mac Jones. It would be OK if Jimmy could stay healthy and clean up things like his footwork to throw better. The big issue is his contract limiting us improving the rest of the team. I didn't think we'd trade for one of these young QB's that failed elsewhere. We already got Rosen to see if we could reform him, You could even add another in FA in Trubisky. If Shanny like Darnold best though and thinks he has the best shot of succeeding, let's do it.
If the compensation doesn't get too high, let's trade Jimmy and a pick for him or trade Jimmy to NE for a pick. We'd have two young high picks battling it out to be the starter and the other the backup. This would free up money for FA. We'd have to bring back Mullens too to have someone that knows the offense.

I just want to make sure we're all on the same page. FWIW I don't think Sam is some stud either.

How about we compare the Jets to the 49ers to two years ago...I don't know if JG even survives on the Jets w/out getting killed/injured. He got killed this year on a 49er team that was still better than the Jets despite all our injuries. I don't know what QB would look good on the Jets.

Even Mahomes looked average in the SB with just a couple of tackles out and has HOF talent across the board... imagine he played for the Jets, he wouldn't be who he is today. Neither would Brady.

We'd have the best backups in the league.

This stupid link sucks if you just click on it, but if you copy and paste it to your URL it will take you to PFF... we ranked #9 (better than Chiefs), Jets and Chargers were among the worse. Cleveland was highest. Just imagine this when thinking QBs
