It's all about giving him talented pieces on defence. Potentially both starting CB's + starting SS will be gone and Jimmie Ward will be our starting FS.
How great our LBs have played makes me expect good things...... expectations and reality are two different things though.... Hope he balls out....
He'll have some growing pains but if he's got talent for the job I don't think they'll be too severe.

He's been with Saleh a couple of years now and is inheriting his scheme so the transition should be smooth and he'll be starting in a better spot than when Saleh first came on board.

Also I've gotta believe after Saleh didn't get a job in 2020 Kyle was probably banking on Saleh getting one in 21 and likely had Ryans pegged as a possible replacement before the season began. So I'm sure Ryans was being groomed for the spot this past season for the position. I mean as soon as Saleh was hired Ryans was promoted so that tells me they had planned for him to have the job right off the bat unless someone unexpected and compelling became available.
If he's as smart and gifted as Warner says, then we'll be okay. It could be a benefit that no team knows his play-calling style, but we do need to be reasonable and not emotionally overreact to his first season as a play-caller (I know that's A LOT to ask of fans on this board)...

"He's just such a smart guy, one of the smartest minds I've been around," Warner said of Ryans on the 49ers Unscripted Podcast. "I put him up there with Saleh. Just the fact that DeMeco, playing at such a high level in the NFL, you already have so much respect for a guy like that. But to be able to teach the way he does. I always respect coaches who have the ability to teach just because it's so easy to just yell at somebody. But somebody who can actually sit down with you and actually go through, 'Okay, why did you do this wrong' or 'what techniques do you need to use' and really break it down for you.

"Your players respond to you so much more and he's taking that mindset that he had in the league as a linebacker and brought it over to being a coach. So, when you see the way I play or Dre Greenlaw or Azeez Al-Shaair, anybody who goes out there on Sundays, it's a direct reflection of how he coaches and the type of player that he was."

Agree. Demeco will be a lot better DC with Bosa vs Cassius Marsh, that's for sure. Hope Kyle gives Demeco a nice first or second round talented edge rusher gift as a welcome to the Defensive Coordinator of the San Francisco 49er Job.

He knew jack s**t as a LB coach. Also had reputation for not exactly being a grinder.

Great story by Bart Scott:

That's f'n depressing...

lol the Bears are interviewing him for DC.

We often assume that the MIKE linebacker is the brain of the defense. That Bart Scott interview suggests otherwise (regarding Singletary). wow

With so few CBs signed for 2021, the 49ers have a chance to re-design their CB group. I don't think they want that long, tall CB anymore since they've moved away from the Cover3 scheme. I'm assuming that they will stay zone dominant since the focus of the drafts has been on DL. But with more Quarters concepts, you need CBs that can man up as well.

This staff has drafted four CBs (Spoon, TMoore, THarris, Reed). Only DJReed is under 6'0. The other three are 6'2+. What they do with the CBs will give us a hint at how Ryans envisions his defense.

Yup, I was just thinking about this. Now is the time if they want to change things up.
So what's his new phrase?

All gas? Pass gas?

Singletary's would be all boxers no briefs.

This draft will have Ryans and Tony Oden (DB coach, hired early 2020) on the staff. No DBs were selected in the 2020 draft after Oden was hired. We'll see soon what traits they value.

Well they did draft Reed to be a Safety. I remember the frustration of watching Moore attempting to play CB and Reed attempting to play FS. Was frustrating how they seemed to keep trying to put squares in circle holes.
