Right. He should've worked the clock more to protect his rookie DC and horrible secondary.

Collinsworth (hates 49ers) said 49ers D was playing straight up, old school, not disguising anything, man coverage often. Was that true? And if so, how did that differ from the way our D played the Pack in 19?

It looked true from the TV view. All through the game, there were many downs where the 49ers just played straight up man - no tricks. Then with 30 seconds left they played the loosest zone coverage possible. So far, it seems like they are playing man coverage at a higher rate compared to Saleh's defense.

There's going to be some growing pains, and I still think be a successful D-coord is more about having dudes more than anything (although some will disagree).

Agreed. Ryans is a rookie DC and all rookies have learning to do. I think Ryans came into the season wanting to play more man coverage but after losing his best man coverage CB, he has to be open to making changes if needed.

Yup I said this would happen. Growing pains, but let's hope he puts it together fast. Saleh took a solid year and a half to understand and make in game adjustments.
Our coverage at the end of the game was terrible. Collinsworth was being mind in his commentary lol
If we don't get it together fast we will probably miss the playoffs, but I could see it taking half a season to gel.

We are screwed if we can't ever expect the defense to stop a te srom scoring with no TOs and less than a minute to play.

You have to be really stupid to call man coverage when all the CB's drafted or picked up in FA the past four years are meant to be used in zone.
