You are better than Richie James

Yes is the answer to both questions.

Led the NFL in Punt Return yards(367 or so), can stretch the field, also had over 700 yards on Kick Returns, he'll make the ST unit so much better.
Omw home from work the local radio station here (Pittsburgh affiliate) were clowning the signing. Said we don't have to watch him catch the ball 7 yards deep and bring it out to the 12

and lessen the load for deebo.. though deebo is dang good back there
Haven't done any due diligence on Sweet Baby Ray Ray but is he a receiver I view him more as a return man WR depth kinda guy.

You don't get the most return yards by being good just by opportunity

He had near 40 catches last season so I assume he can play some slot. Very odd that his yards per average was a paltry 7.1 yards. Must be a bunch of bubble screens. I still think he can add a different skillset to the slot position as a quick guy as opposed to a size guy (Juan Jennings).
If he provides more value than Sherfield at WR it's a net positive signing. Him being the PR/KR also helps us there as well.

I hope you are right

I like Jakeem Grant too, he reminds me of Tyreek Hill but he's never been able to make an impact as a WR for whatever reason. Hopefully Ray Ray can provide us with a shifty slot as well as a Pro Bowl PR/KR.

You guys aren't allowed to have a small preference for another player. That's sacrilegious in NT!

The difference is, I am willing to post reasons why I think Grant is better and cheaper, I am not falling back on other peoples ratings or opinions or my pre free agency predictions?

BTW, now that we spent $5M/yr on a return guy. You still like Reed over Ward?

Grant is a legit 4.3 guy, real burner. Ray Ray isn't that.

It seems like a choice between a return guy and someone who brings what Shanahan HOPED Goodwin would bring to the offense when he signed him, or someone who brings what he HOPED Trent Taylor would bring to the offense when he drafted him.

I guess he thought Ray Ray had a better chance of filling that hole in the offense.

could be more like Marquise than Trent I'm hoping...

Marquise could beat Ray Ray in a race backpedaling!

Nice comparison of styles. It seems as though McCloud is more in the Trent Taylor mold - he's more quick/twitchy than he is a speedster.

Primary return man and gadget WR4 or WR5. Speed for Lance big arm. Nice pickup

Does he have deep speed?

He ran a 4.53 at the combine. He's a lighter, smaller, poor man's Deebo Samuel. Like Deebo he's like a RB playing WR (was a RB in high school), plays with physicality, and very good lower body strength. And as mentioned he could play CB too. Personally I don't see him being much more than our return specialist and special teams player. Given his DB skills I'd say he'll be an ideal gunner on kickoffs, a good replacement for Mostert. So I say a decent pickup.

I never thought about that. The Niners lost both of their gunners in Sherfield and Cannon. If he becomes a solid gunner as well as return guy, I will eat crow and concede that he was a better signing that Grant.
