Being paid that, I think Kyle has more planned for McCloud than just STs. He can play small slot WR as a change up from Jennings if the team needs speed over size. He's a fumbler with 4 last season, and 11 in 4 years.

He better cut down on that then. No faster way to get on Kyle's doghouse than fumbling.

A quick search will bring up articles about how he fumbles and how Mike Tomlin had to make a decision to stay with McCloud despite his fumbling. I like to play it safe on punt return - securing the possession is priority one and two and three. Return yards are a bonus.

He needs to not fumble so much or at least be so explosive that we can live with a fumble here and there. Not my preferred style of punt returner. I'm fine with boring but secure when it comes to punt returns.

Yeah, Grant is a fumbler too. 13 in 6 seasons as apposed to Ray Ray's 11 in 4. The difference is Grant has 11 TDs and Ray Ray is still hoping for his 1st one in his 5th season in the NFL.

A WR/PR that fumbles a lot. That's not good.

He still lead the league in punt returns and 4th in kick returns. This is an area that has been a problem for the Niners for some time.

That's because Pittsburghs defense forced a lot of punts. He led the league in total yardage, he isn't even top 5 in return average. He had 12 more returns that the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place guys did, I would hope he has more yardage than them.

NICE, I love this signing, right there with the Ward signing.

i dont know much about him, can you share?

Led the NFL in Punt Return yards(367 or so), can stretch the field, also had over 700 yards on Kick Returns, he'll make the ST unit so much better.

I always wondered what people posted total yards instead of averages when talking about Ray Ray. He is 15th in kick return average as well. Yikes.

You don't get the most return yards by being good just by opportunity

On kick off you do. Returning it to the 20 yard line is a bad return. And on punt he had the most punt returns on anyone in the NFL, at least 6 more than everyone else. 12 more than the other top guys in total yards.
Special teams has needed an upgrade for a few years both on kick returns and punt returns. He looks like an upgrade over what we've been throwing out there which has been someone different every week.

I'll field this one.... Noooooooo
He seems shifty and quick. With good vision. But not the best long speed. He should be a good returner for us.

No rookie imo as it takes years to develop route running skills. One thing to know the route, another to have done it thousands of times and know how to make a db think you are not running the route you are running.

We added Deebo, Aiyuk, Jennings all drafted why not bring in a savvy vet. McCloud is return man in my view.

Well you have to remember where he came from. I Ben only averaged 6.2 yards per attempt. I will say this FWIW RRM became Ben's go to guy down the stretch. Seemed every big pass went to him. Didn't pan out majority of the time. From my memory was his go to guy Nonetheless.

No not really. If your a person that puts stock in the combine he finished with a 4.53 40. 10 and 20 yard splits were average. You like to see someone his size be faster. I had Jakeem Grant posted as an off-season target I'd like to see a few weeks ago. Jakeem albeit had 12 less punt returns the last two years from McCloud but I like the averages better. He had over 11 both seasons. I really liked the the top end speed and thought he could fill a Taylor Gabriel field stretching like role in the offense all while improving the return game.

What I will say about McCloud is what pops out in the film is the vision. He's good on end arounds and reverses. Had some good college tape on screens. I believe aside from returns that's the role Kyle has in mind for him in the offense.

Vision yep, and his cuts are quick, violent and he knows how to accelerate right after making such a cut. These are a joy to watch.
Guess my age is showing, but all I can hear in my head is Foxxy Love. "Poor little Ray-Ray...."

I didn't see where he had any 3 cone drill stats but I would venture to say he would have stood out in that.
