That's insane that 7 OTs went in the first round. I don't know enough about the draft prospects, but to think there were 8 first round worthy OTs is hard to believe (the 49ers would have drafted the 8th OT at #31). The 8th OT was taken in the latter half of the 2nd round.

I'm hoping they continue to draft in the #31--#32-ish place from here on in. That means 49ers will never have a shot at those elite OT's.

No thanks to drafting at #31.

Personally, the more shots you get at the Superbowl, the more chances of winning it. But that's just me.

But drafting #31 means you lost the SB. That's what I'm no thanksing to.

We'd have had #6 🏆 but for Greenlaw and Feliciano getting injured in the Superbowl.

So we left the draft with 3 IOL? People wanted IOL and got it.

I'll just add that two/three of them can also play left tackle. They added depth and versatility - specially at the left tackle position. If it's true that Kyle's offense will be more pass happy (I doubt that) then you don't need a Trent Williams road grader at left tackle, but more of a Colton Mckivitz/Jalon Moore guy who can pass protect better than Run Block.

Eeeww. McKivitz is better than McGlinchey (barely) at pass protecting but to just call Trent a road grader? Neither Moore nor McKivitz are average, let alone good. McKivitz could improve given it was only year 1 of him starting, but I'd rather some kind of competition. That didn't happen again. I think the passing offense will take off and I hope McKivitz can hold up enough.

As much as I hate depending on Brock's quick reads and release, it's a factor in designing an offense around him. I'd love 5 Trent William's on the offensive line, but that's just a draft and cap impossibility. Next best thing is to beef up the RB pass protections Guerendo/Mason and also bolster the interior line. I thought the interior line was a weakness against the Chiefs in the super bowl. With Guerendo - you can get Guerendo to give chip block help to McKivitz/Moore and then still go out on pass routes. The jitterbug WR's that were drafted Pearsol/Cowing will make it very dangerous for teams to blitz Brock. He'll make those teams pay (read KC). It will also help Brock as these two Wr's are precise route runners and Brock's anticipation will be impossible to stop with both Deebo, Aiyuk, and Pearsol/Cowing running the triangle offense. If you have a quick passing game, the interior line is probably as important (or more important) than the outside OT's.

Ttotally agree. I said the offense will take off, even more than what they did last year. I likened it to the 2016 Falcons or Greatest Show on Turf. I also get them countering how the Chiefs and Browns defended them. I just wish we could've done both. I believe there was a path to doing both. The offense will be even more fun to watch.

Careful now. You will be accused of accepting losing. To some pick 1 = pick 31.
Maybe when Trent is about to retire they can pick up another great OT like they did w/Trent and pay him accordingly.

Agreed, which is why I'm not hating on the pearsall pick as I think he's going to be very good, I just thought maybe go iol there, but that has never been Kyle's mo. I'm more surprised they passed on Kingsley in the 2nd.

I am reading up on this Nugent kid and am surprised he went undrafted. I think he may seriously have a shot and even be better than Brendal.

He was in DJ's top 150 big board (which means nothing).

i won't pretend like I've watched much of him…seems like he's pretty small overall. Thorn said their run heavy approach with a lot of play-action protected him as a pass protector (not a ton of one-on-ones). Moves well in the running game.

honestly he sounds a lot like Brendel lol.

Ah I see. He looks better than a udfa from what i saw earlier tbh but I get it.

I like the idea of signing Bakhtiari. 2 year contract as we get him healthy. Could possibly take over trent williams in 2025 maybe be ready for the second half of 2024 and take over the right side

He's a LT. He's had years to "get healthy" he's on his way out of the league man. He's played 14 games in 3 yrs.

Colton is not amazing, ya'll act like he's the worst starting RT in his first yr starting.

This. Colton is 27 and was his first year starting, he's gotten better every year. Banks is 26, Burford is 23, Puni is 24. Are they upgradable? Sure, but ppl out here acting like they are terrible and there's no hope for improvement. It's dumb to force a draft pick on a player you don't have highly rated just cus you feel like it's a "need"

I just want our Brock the best lol. Its a win-now year. Dont want to wait around in hopes that our players improve after one season. Honestly, have little hope McKitivz improves. Aaron Banks, Brendel and Spencer Burford, i have good hopes that they improve. but like i said in my post, signing Bakhtiari would be a 2025-focused signing for the departure of Trent Williams.

True, there are folks that want that round 1 pick 1 offensive tackle. I wish we could get someone like that year in and year out. Not going to happen in this day and age.

It's going to be scheme fit and talent development from here on out. Kyle has to get the coaches that can spot those diamonds in the rough and develop them into all-pros. I don't see any other way if the 49ers keep drafting so late every year.
if Puni shows up and dominates, could they move Feliciano to center and start Puninat RG?
In my mind, we drafted 3 IOL this year. I felt like Drake Nugent easily was a draft worthy prospect.

Extremely happy to walk away with 2 of 3 guys I liked on my board, and another versatile player who I didn't get a chance to scout but like most of the tools now after I got to see him. I agree with Kiper that Kingston was a good pick and solid value in the sixth.

I would love to see Puni, Nugent, and Kingston replace Burford, Zakelj, and Banks or Bartch if either are not retained after this year.

Agree and Personally, and its probably a weird perspective on my part, but the evolving 49er offense with the new guys (2 guards and 2 wide recievers, and the one RB) kind of remind me of Mike Shanahan's Denver Superbowl offense. That offense had a good OLine, (not great) Davis at RB (Gurendo's) size and similar running style, Elway and his quick passing (sorta kinda like Brock) and a good recieving corps.

49ers with Brock as QB will be good for a while, and hopefully that will translate into a couple of championships. They were closer last year to a championship than the previous game against the Chiefs with Jimmy. I hope last years weakness at right guard is solved.
