One thing I see not considered in this thread:
Kap's 'fro is absolutely fantastic. Football 'Fro to victory? Likely not, but boy would that be fun.
To get back to football, I thought Kap looked better last night than he did in game 3 of the preseason. But taking the competition into account, he should have looked better. As some posters have pointed out, he was late getting the ball out on more than a few occasions. He did make some nice, decisive throws though. This has been his problem for some time now. It is not that he can't read the field or the defense, it is typically that he is late delivering the ball. He wants to see the receiver open before throwing the ball, and that will get any QB in trouble at this level.
One thing I saw that I did like was his back-shoulder throw to Ryan Whalen in the end zone. While it did not result in a touchdown, it was thrown with nice touch and had a pretty good location. Perhaps a better athlete than Whalen turns that into a TD, but it was a pretty good throw given Kap's tendency to rifle every ball.
I want Kap to be a successful QB, but at this point in his career he is a backup QB on virtually any team. He has the tools to be a very good player, but as with many players that have his athleticism, he has failed to improve in the mental aspect of the game. I find this unfortunate and do hope that he can turn his game around. Perhaps Kelly can coax something out of him as the season progresses, but this Kap homer is doubtful that will ever happen, whether it is Kelly or a coach for another team.
