Clever, really. If they cut him, he has no chance for further injury clause money, so Kaepernick might as well take the short term raise.

Must mean Ponder stays.

Eh?

Why would they threaten to release him? We can't go with Gabby, Ponddirt and Drizzy.

Oh yes, they indeed could decide to do that. If this report is true, not saying it is but if, it would actually make sense for Kap to take it. He takes it and gets playing time, he is in a much better light next year, and actually even in a trade. That clause, after last off season, may have cost him in the league. If he doesn't, and the 9ers cut him, he us going to have a hard time ever being thought of as a starter, when he wouldn't bet on himself... again.

Called that one. Glad CK is open to that. Congrats to Ponder too.

Nope. Drizzy's gone.

And they would release him if they couldn't risk play him anyway because of $25,000,000 left on his injury clause. I thought that was clear.

Damn, that would be a bad look. Cutting a guy cause you might have to pay him out if he gets hurt, leaving you with Gabby and Pondirt at QB.

That's Way too much to pay especially a back-up in case he gets hurt. Even these guys don't like to waste $25,000,000, and reduce your cap space by that much.

Well this is the first test to see if Kap really wants to play football or wants to move on. If he re-negotiates then I'll be happy knowing he actually still has that hunger. If not, I will be disappointed. Either way balls in his court.
So Kaep will have to agree to remove the injury clause to have the possibility of playing this year, or they keep him inactive every week.

Nope, no point in that. They will cut him and open the slot for someone else.
NFL Network says Gabbert is the starter and Kaepernick is the back-up. Does this mean they've come to terms?
This might be the best thing for Kaep. Get a bit healthier, get his nose in the playbook, when not promoting civil rights reform, and maybe, possibly, get rid of those socks--he can protest all he wants, but maybe wear one pig sock with one LAPD sock or something. In all seriousness, Kaep fans should applaud this possibility. If not for this, I am afraid he would be gone.

Agreed. He still doesn't look to be 100% strength.

And congrats on your modship! It's nice to have more pro-Kap mods.

I appreciate the sentiments, my feelings for one player or the other does not matter, though. All I want to do is call it down the middle. I prefer that posters understand the rules and police themselves. Good debate is much needed around these parts. Anyway, back on topic. Stay positive folks this could work out well for all involved.
Kaep still in the NFL but now has more time dedicated to activism as a backup.

Otherwise, I bet they were just going to RG3 him. This makes sense for us and for Kap. If he didn't do this, then we can't afford to play him, in case of injury, we owe him $15 mil for next yr too. Good move on part of mgmt...I hope this is true.

Whole heartily agree.
It is official, Gabbert is the guy. Kaep, take the time to get better.
