How do we have 3 first round picks on the d-line and no rush? I'm confused....

Even with foster and Reid out, we still had 4 1st round picks out there in defense and give up 41.....

Over half of our starting defense are 1st rounders, if we allow more than 29 when we're all healthy.... I dunno, time to call Fangio?
DeFo and AA were drafted for their strength and length to play as 2 gappers. Solly is a tweener and either has to lose some weight or gain some weight. Both teams sprinkled in some no huddle to get these already tired players (Thursday game) more tired.

But they were also touted for their ability to rush the passer from the interior. Defo had 6 1/2 last year and AA switched to an edge player and Solly is supposed to be able to rush from anywhere. I mean, I'm not expecting them to get 4 sacks a game, but we can't get one?
Why is Thomas rushing from the outside? He's not going to do s**t from that spot.

Saleh really needs to change his DB coaching technique...36 and 33 P.I. every single time. They just can't play like that.

Yeah I'm having a hard time buying into that technique of playing the WR and not looking back for the ball. I kind of get it. Focus on the WR's eyes and hands, but it gives the ref the green light to throw the flag. If the CB looks back for the ball and runs into the WR, refs usually let it slide (incidental contact).

Exactly...I get the idea behind it but it's clearly working against us and I'm sure 36/33 would tell you they'd rather just play the way they've played their whole careers.

Yup

Dumervil had a sack early erased by a phantom penalty

I hope solly puts on weight and plays the 3 full time and let Buck be the big end
So who do we lose to next?
Guess have to work on limiting the big runs

It's just disappointing to think that to have a defense, 6 first round picks aren't enough, we'll need 7 and spend our first on a top tier pass rusher.....

D-line sucks ass getting to the QB.

no QB, no LEO. Team is 3-4 years away until we can find some studs.

They have to because:

1. lack of elite talent
2. lack of pass rush
3. lack of experience

well i am sure this also factored in:

I would have thought our last 3 #1 draft picks would have put more pressure on the QB, but maybe since they are interior lineman they are more focused on absorbing tackles to let the edge rushers and linebackers rush the QB? IDK. We do need a true pass rusher for sure as well as a true shutdown CB. In addition we need a franchise QB and no, I do not think CJ is it. I think we are a good two more quality offseasons away (free agency signings and drafts) from really competing for a division title and more. However, I knew this going into the season as I am more of a realistic fan then a idealistic/fantasy fan. Due to how messed up the Front Office was and how poorly Trent drafted, we were a true rebuild project by the time Klye and John came onboard, which is why they got 6 year deals. I know it sucks being 0-3, and yes we already know where this season is headed, but nonetheless, I am still honestly excited about our direction. The Front Office finally appears to be W/O drama and we have stability at the GM and coach position. Just a thought, but I bet we go after our former DC next offseason!! If we do, do we keep with the 3-4? Thoughts?

I think you should post more often.

Other than that my biggest concern tonight was the lack of a pass rush. We need a FQB, true #1 WR (I really like Garcon but I'd like a big man opposite Garcon), CB and a pass rusher. Oh ya, and a couple gaurds.

IMO we could be playoff contenders next year if we get a FQB that plays well right out of the gates, a WR, pass rusher and better blockers up front. Our CB's might play better with a pass rush. It's hard to judge guys when QB's have so much time to throw.

Five draft picks within the first 3 rounds and 100+ million cap space can help A LOT.

I thought the goal line defense was really, really good tonight.

Invested a lot in the defense, but not enough at pass rusher. Other than Aldon Smith in 2011, we have not used the proper draft capital to land a premium edge rusher, instead choosing to roll the dice on a number of mid round picks.
