Wish had the second most kickoffs returned for over 1000 yards I think like 48 and Pinion had the second fewest 9 for like 200 yards.
The think the thought he's being coached to kick short is absurd. We are giving up like 23 yards a return so your telling me we are risking not only injury but the chance of them breaking a long one for an average of 2 yards field position, not likely.

Kicking the ball right at the goalline is better than a touchback with today's rules. That isnt even debatable

I would say a touchback is the safer option. Removing the risk of a touchdown, big return and injury. Saying it's not even debatable is just wrong. That's not even debatable.

No s**t Sherlock. LOL.

But safer =/= better.

The average kick return yardage this season was less than the 25 yards. Wth a good special teams unit (which isnt a stretch to say we have), that average could even go down. Point is that statistically, if you kick the ball right to the goal line, on average, the players return would be shorter than where the ball would be spotted after a touchback.

When I say it's not debatable, I say that in the sense that statistics say more often than not, it's the better option. But as you so astutely pointed out, there is risk involved with allowing a player the chance to run it back.

That's all I'm saying bro.

The average starting spot is the 24.4 yard line. So your saying .6 yards is worth the risk statistically. Lol alright Watson
Man that kick out of bounds was inexcusable
Dude went full John Kasay on that kickoff
Still not over the fact, that this dude almost cost them the division title and first seed.

He better make up for it in the playoffs.

I don't understand what is going on with him, but his game has been a bit down in last 1/4 of season. It's not as if he is running through people every game and getting banged up.
Is there something on the coaching side we aren't hearing about?

You may be on to something.

I recall a play vs the Saints in which he could have blown up the returner, ala preseason, but instead attempted a half ass shoe tackle.

The brutal NFL schedule might be taking its toll. Especially if he has punt and kickoff duties.

I'm no expert on kickers by any means but between punts and kick offs he probably kicking around 10 times a game.
Couldn't he just cut way back on his kicking during the week to rest his leg if it's getting fatigued ? Maybe he does have some type of injury.
he's a rookie, he has done well for his first year... next year if he has a kickoff OOB then cut his @$$ Lol
Maybe it's just nerves getting the best of him

Interesting read over on Reddit about the best punters this season.

Rookie Champion
Great class of rookies in 2019! Jake Bailey (NE, 11th, score of 13.8) has been fantastic and (without exaggeration) at times New England's best offensive weapon. Jamie Gillan (CLE, 9th, 13.6) has punted his wee Scottish heart out for a classically dysfunctional Browns organisation, and A.J. Cole (OAK, 25th, 20.5) was at least an upgrade on Jonny Townsend, which is a relief because I've seen corpses who are more dynamic than JT (may god rest his soul).

But our Rookie Winner is everyone's favourite Aussie Tackling and What Do You Mean That's A Flag Ya Flamin' Wombat Mitch Wishnowsky (SF), who finishes 7th overall with a Weighted Punk Rank of 12.5. Good on ya, cobber.

I hope he doesn't kickoff out of bounds in the playoffs and give our opponents the ball at the 40.....
