Short answer : No
Long answer : Nope

This season will clear it all up because Wish came in with more available tools than Batman. I want to see it. I take the position with Wish that I did with Solomon Thomas. I had faith until 2019. But when we brought in Coach K and every Dlineman ate except Thomas, I knew he was a bust.

If Wish doesn't improve with a new coach, for me this is truly a bad pick.

ST coach has very little impact on Ps and Ks. That's not their job at all teaching them how to kick or punt better. Maybe if they were former kicker or punters themselves, but I don't think that's ever the case.

This right here. Never heard of a change in st coach turning around a bust punter. Wishful thinking! Lol

The tools that he showed in college to win the Ray Guy award are not often used in the NFL unless the coach is confident they will work. Mitch must have given no confidence thus making their draft choice look poor. Either that or Coach S told Coach H to make them NOT fail. Great coaching! Less than stellar punting.

Agree about the ST coach having zero impact on how they play. No use in yelling RAH RAH stuff at Gould to get him to bash the heck out of the ball.

However, the coach has a direct input on the gunners downing punts, defending the punt/kick person and fakes.

As far as fakes go I think if Kyle decides he wants to go for it he trusts himself and his offense more to pick up a first more than a punter. But I do agree our gunners and lane discipline needs to be better.

team overdrafts a punter that kicks at elevation in college and wonders why he can't kick as far at sea level

This is where I was going which is why I used the Batman analogy. Wish came into the NFL with all these tools, 4.6 speed, runs for 1st downs, touchbacks, piling up fair catches, was the top punter in the country, pinning teams inside the 5, etc. We haven't really seen that. I'm hoping the new coach comes in and finds ways to utilize his tools.

I think it's. more on Kyle, considering his idea is to not lose the game on special teams. If that's the case, little a ST coach can do. If it's lack of confidence in Wish, then yes, this pick is a bust. It was already an overdraft. We could've tried to make it count, but we haven't.
Hightower is the Jimmy Garoppolo of special teams. Kyle just doesn't trust him. Then again, he doesn't trust anyone. LOL

He trusts Deebo :-). Hopefully there is a change in philosophy, use of personnel, and of course production.
I think Wish tries to be too cute with his punts. Dude tries to knuckleball it, give it weird english etc…. It's cool when it works for a muff (that one time lol), but more often than not just ends up being a garbage kick. Just punt it down the field man.

Pretty smart observation. Reminds of a Monday night game in Denver when I was a kid. Giants and broncos were booming each punt for 70+ yards. Lol.

His old a** doesn't have the leg for down field punts. Probably why he relies on dumb trick shots. Globetrotter style. Lol.
