SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - 2019 Game 1

I felt like I was watching a Jim Harbaugh era game. Jimmy G was Alex Smith esque out there...dinking and dunking. Frustratingly predictable runs (that start gashing opponents in the 2nd). Over-reliance on Crabtree/Kittle.

But the defense was outstanding. They were getting pressure all game long with the front 4. Bosa is legit. Witherspoon was very good. Kwon looked good in his sort stint, and I think the defense missed him.

But dang...I can't remember seeing 3 pick-sixes in one game. 2 interceptions last year, 3 this game (including a couple of drops)

If anyone needs a good laugh, go take a look on the Browns forum........some people already calling for the coach to be fired. Same old Browns.......hope we smack them good in week 5

Please we won and have people in here calling for Mullens and saying if Shanny doesn't improve he should be gone next year....our fans are no better. Probably worse.

Right. Our team is in the best shape it has been for six years thanks to Shanahan and crew, and some fans already have plans to jettison him right as he brings the team back to prominence. WTF are people thinking? There will be struggles at times as we saw today, but we'll be rolling at the end of the year.

agreed

the gameday forum is always hilarious
Good win! Defense is already significantly better than last year.

And how do you get Jimmy's up to where they should be.

You do that by playing in games. You can't replicate that in practice (which preseason games are).

Playing musical chairs with the QB position never works. You have to commit to the position with one player.

Jimmy will be fine. This was his first real football game in almost a year (preseason is not real football).

But his legend was born coming in cold from NE with barely any time with the team. Now he's got a lot of time under his belt. It's not as though he hasn't thrown a football in months. So he should be in a better position now, yet he looked like a run of the mill QB. He was an Alex Smith clone today.

People were overreacting like crazy. "We gotta fire Shanahan!" And hire who? So many of the coaches that have been hired in recent years look like straight up booty. Matt Patricia, the dynamite assistant from the Patriots blew a 24-3 lead late in the game and had to settle for a tie. Freddie KItchens with an absolutely loaded roster got blown out by Tennessee. I'm okay with Shanahan developing this team and that very well may mean jettisoning Saleh. The talent on defense is now there but a lot of familiar issues are still present. Poor awareness, poor tackling, the Bucs were basically running at will late in the game and its hard to argue that he is getting the absolute maximum out of each player. On the other hand, I think Bowles had a Bucs defense with a lot of holes looking pretty damn good, playing well as a unit, always flowing to the ball, attacking and making plays even with the lack of any sort of edge rush.

He came to us mid season after being "benched" behind TB and then CJ, and he looked pretty good.

I don't think he looked that good, I think he looked like a back up quarterback

This. He looked like a solid backup and an occasional spot starter. A lot like Bono...

Throwing a football in practice is not even close to the same thing as actual snaps in a game situation. Garoppolo missed a year so there was definitely always going to be some rust while coming back. There was visibly issues with communication and passes or receivers going in the wrong direction. The only way that stuff gets ironed out is with more actual reps. I also think Trent Taylor coming back will be huge for Jimmy. He has tremendous chemistry with Taylor so having another safety valve besides Kittle could be huge for him.

If he's still looking like he did in Week 5 or 6 then I'll be worried but it'll likely take another couple of games for him to get sorted out and get into the flow of the offense overall.
Anytime you can win on the road its a major +. Lots of stupid penalties and some questionable QB decisions made this a B+ victory. The defense deserves the game ball.

This game showed again how much we are missing an WR1. It's good having a bunch of smurfs going out on curls and go routes, but we are still desperately in need of someone to go on deep routes and stretch the field.

And coming off of a major knee injury. Can take time to get over that side of things.

Saw some good. Saw some bad. To me, it seemed he was watching the pass rush a bit. But all in all, I think give him a few more games and he will be the same guy we saw a few years back.
