More quality LBs, ER depth and more secondary depth.

We just need one more good LB. But then again if Greenlaw keeps playing well and Kwon comes back solid then we'd be ok.

But LB is the only spot besides Safety i think we need upgrades on. Meaning like we're one good LB and a great safety for having a lights out defense.

i know we're already a top 3 defense in almost every category. but just saying there's always room for improvement.

Depending on the draft board and FA I think we will try to trade down with no 2-4 picks.

I would think a player like AJ Green could be in the works and then draft a FS or G/T.

When we get ahead its brutal. Close game like Seattle with a mobile QB, much more competitive.

I see this defense and wish Willis was here in his prime. An all pro talent like him and maybe some elite speed at safety is what I imagine would push the defense even higher.

If if the offense scores more points than the defense gives up... Then BOOM! You probably win the game.

Unless your special teams screws you over...

Stopping the run is just going to be really tough in a wide 9 D.
I really like the 4-3 over/Cover 3 defense but I hate the lack of aggressive front 7 play or coordination of it. Not sure if that is due to personnel, scheme, or Saleh's philosophy.

Every time I see SEA play, they seem to play extremely aggressive no matter who their FS and CBs are. In this era, every offense is dictated by the QB, even the run-heavy ones. Just look at DAL, they lose their QB and they have issues.

Do we need a more aggressive defense in terms of pressure? Force every team to get the ball out in under 2.5 seconds. This completely takes offenses out of their overall plan and forces them to chip away rather than getting any chunks. But the biggest factor is that it forces QB's into making more mistakes from making blind throws. Almost every QB we play seems to be able to camp out back there which allows the OC to look for their best route combination plays.

The 49ers don't play a 4-3 Over, and are no longer primarily a Cover 3 defense.

Are you asking for more blitzes? If this is about the latest game versus BUF, I have a feeling that had the 49ers blitzed more and Allen ripped off some 10+ yard scrambles we'd be talking about how dumb it is to blitz a mobile QB.

I'd rather force a QB to scramble and run over letting him get on a passing rhythm. What are your thoughts on how we are attacking QB's? The wide 9 is all good if you have the stout in the middle and extremely fast edge rushers. We need to adjust according to our injuries.

I think we need to bring the front line back in closer and rely on our fast and smart LBs more. Do we even use a 3rd LBer?

It's give and take, like all things in football. Otherwise every team would be doing the same best thing.

I agree coaches should lean towards their players' strengths and without Bosa/Ford, wide9 won't have the same effectiveness, but that would be the case no matter what scheme they ran - it's hard to replace Bosa/Ford. It's tough to change things since the injuries happened in-season but I suppose it could have been done (move away from wide 9). Saleh's basic principle has not changed, only how he goes about doing it. It's zone dominant so that means it's a 'bend don't break' style by nature.

He is trying to manufacture pressure. He got creative vs BUF dropping DL into coverage while bringing LBs - still four man rush, just came from different directions. Dual threat QBs are a problem for any defense. Play soft coverage, they take what they are given. Blitz often, be susceptible to explosive plays. Play zone, patient QBs complete those 7 yard passes. Play man the QB will look for lanes to scramble.

If that's the case then the best thing imo is to mix it up and hope you catch the QB confused a couple times and the drive stalls.
