Why didn't we do a better job defensively against the Ravens?

Is this thread for real??? I mean they had one of their worst offensive games of the year we held them to 20 points and 283 yards and they were gifted the ball at the 23-yard line for the first TD in the first quarter and the defense play bad??? I mean this thread should really be locked. This team is a missed field goal and a piss poor play call on 4th down from being 12 and 0.

Hey I mean in the second half we only give up three points yes in the first half of defensive ends crash too hard on the running backs leaving Lamar too much room. but I still say we gifted them seven in the first quarter and shanahan and company should have got us closer for the field goal attempt and should have ran the ball on fourth down in the fourth quarter. Game over.

Defense did enough to win that game. They made plays when needed but it also didn't feel like we controlled the game. That Baltimore offense really does take our biggest strengths (Pass rush, Speed, pass defense) and use it against us. They really don't pass enough to get the pass rush really cranked up and their run game is built to really attack a speedy defense and use that team speed against you. Baltimore is just a really, really good team.

So, that's pretty good.
But we didn't come close to shutting them down either.
Got gashed for over 170 yards on the ground.
The highlight plays didn't show any penetration or take downs of Lamar.
Couldn't stop them at crunch time.
Where did things go off the rails?
The other team gets paid too you know. Even the worst team in the league has some of the best players in the world. The 49ers out gained the Ravens by 50 yds in the game. Jackson ran wild but he always does, against every team. And usually much worse. How can fans get so spoiled in a years time lol.

I thought Roman had a predictable offense which was why we eventually got figured out here and he eventually got figured out in BUF.
Just need to find a way to force his QBs into passing volume. In BALs case, it would be showing zero coverage. I'm fine with that because that means coverage should be tight and Lamar will need to be very accurate along with taking chances on jump ball throws. I don't think he would be able to be successful if he must pass 30+ times. And these would mostly be 3rd and long situations because we would be committed to stuffing their run and they will still try to run the ball. These passes would also be under pressure because we would bring the house on run blitzes every play.

Most of the comments on this thread are far more sensible than the title.

The defense played solid for most of the game. We held the highest scoring offense in the league to 20 points. What more could we ask for

or, how about we would have kept the ball and scored a TD leaving less than a min left on the clock? How about the offense step up for once?
Bruh the thread is about defense.
Bruh, the defense allowed 3 points the second half, as time expired..........that's the point bruh. The point bruh is this........the defense isn't the problem.
So much this.

As long as we take away his option he is forced to run or pass. We were confident we could defend his passing and it worked. He got 104 on the ground but only 101 passing. No big explosive plays.
Ummm if our scheme was predicated upon Lamar running free then we are fuking idiots
Whatever the plan was, it was effective.
The 49ers held the Ravens to their lowest score and yardage totals for the year. The Ravens hung 37 on Belichek and 45 on Wade Philips.

We don't match up well with offense that are run-heavy. It's a fact. We are starting two rookies at LBs in a 4-3. and our DLine's strengths are getting to a prototypical passing QB.
Throughout the whole game, Ravens made it look easy. The key was to put them in 3rd and long situations, but that was much easier said than done. I almost felt couple of times they got too pass happy. If I had a run offense of their caliber, Id just run the ball all the time until the opposing team proves they can stop it and go for it on every 4th down and less than 5 yards.
We had to work for our 3rd down conversions, for Ravens it seemed stupid easy. Our run game actually kept our defense fresh, if we had many three and outs the defense would be toast.
Let's just say I'm glad we don't play in the AFC. All other NFC teams that are good we matchup well against. Aside maybe from Seattle, every other team plays right into our strengths.
As time goes, people could think of a plan to stop them. But right now, this ravens o looks way more explosive than our offense with Roman and Kaep ever was. They built the offense around Lamar and know what they're doing. Plus Lamar looks like a more refined passer than Kaep already. You can't beat this offense with run blitz like Ravens were able to do to us back in 2012.

and the lowest they've been held all season...
Bellichick is brewing something right now just for them. Even we'll be ready if we meet up again and maybe more healthy.

The 49ers held the Ravens to their lowest point and yard output of the season.
230 yards and 20 points oh, that isn't looking easy that's a massive struggle for the Ravens.
Wade Phillips and the Rams gave up 45, Bill Belichick and the Patriots gave up 37 it sure looked a whole lot easier against those teams and every other team they played this year.
