Time to liquidate Assets?

Not liquidating assets, just making smart cap moves like the one today with Kwon. This team's championship window is not even close to being closed. Too much talent on this roster. More of a reload than a rebuild.

Have to wonder what Balt would be willing to part with for a half season rental of Trent Williams now that they need a LT. We could always re-sign him in the off-season. Food for thought.

My bad..and I don't mean all young assets. The vets that can help other teams like Tartt, Sherman,Ford, Trent Williams. I'll include Jimmy G if Belichek still wants him.Originally posted by fip24:Originally posted by LifelongNiner:Imagine if Pittsburgh liquidated their assets last year when things weren't looking. You are missing the point. No one thinks we should move guys who can help next year, but JV is on an expiring deal.If the front office isn't willing to give him a high dollar, multi year contract (which I would not) then they should trade them.
He is the one player we have who may fetch a third round pick or better

Liquidate unnecessary assets, stock pile draft capital and go get guys we want to build around. We need a burner WR who scares defenses, we need help on the oline, we need dline pass rusher to book end with bosa and we need a QB who can make it work/stay healthy

In the offseason maybe. Probably not in the next 24 hours.

i just worry because he is injury prone. We got enough bum players that are injured and taking up cap space. I guess it is worth the risk, but depends on the price
I feel you but he's hands down our best Cb right now. Are you planning on replacing the entire secondary? What good players do you think we can get that won't cost good money? I don't think JV will break the bank. He needs to be fairly compensated. .
yeah...anyone asking to not resign Sherman is asking to take a step back. If we knew we had our FQB, we could get away with that, but Sherman, even if he dips a little bit, is still likely to be a top-10 and at worst top-15 CB. Add in the pass rush, and they may bump him up a little higher. I'm hoping he can go this year, even if it's the last quarter of the season. We need that football IQ out there and in the DB room.
Also, I know he was open to an eventual move to free safety. I prefer Tavarious Moore or some player not on the team in that spot (more speed and big play ability). But what about SS?

Good point. But we don't have a hall of fame super bowl winning qb coming back.

Liquidate is probably harsh, but with the cap decreasing and so many UFA's and money on the books, they probably should look into making moves like the one this afternoon with Kwon
I agree with the move. I spoke about them trading him to some desperate team looking to make a splash before it happened and voila.

Easy to do with a hall of fame quarterback. Let's see how they do when Big Ben retires

I'm not missing the point at all. it's the wording and given what has gone down this year, I don't think there was any doubt that this team was going to move on from certain guys- even before the Kwon trade. It's crazy to move Verrett unless it's for a 1st or 2nd. You are likely to get 3rd round compensation if we walks as a free agent. No sense in trading him unless this team is really trying to tank. Dump underperforming players/trim the fat if you can, but other than that, we should be trying to keep our talented, productive players, not trading them.

No we don't. But I do think we have better than Trent Dilfer coming back. And while our defense isn't 2000 Ravens level it's good enough with all of our starters and I suspect that with his actual starting center in the Super Bowl to block Chris Jones, we wouldn't have had as many busted plays. Right now, Jimmy isn't passing the eye ball test as being that guy, but he's definitely a good enough guy for now- this season non-withstanding.

I'd be surprised if we were able to move any eventual cap casualties tomorrow. Every team is going to have cap issues next year and I don't see many teams taking on big contracts. Yeah the Saints just did but I bet they know this is Drew's last year and they are going for it.
Maybe I'm wrong and we get some draft capital but i think next years draft capital will be a huge commodity. There will be a ton of vets on the market next year. Should be interesting.

You know what happened to the last guy who said "it's a reload, not a rebuild"
He went and hired Jim Tomsula.

Next years team will look slightly different. I will say 3/4 of the starters return on both sides of the ball. This team has some good young players, it would be crazy to dismantle a team based on an injury plagued season.
