This. Shanny is safe. His position does not ride o n finding a FQB.
I think everything depends on how Mullens plays rest of season.

1. If he plays well he gets his dream large contract.
2. If he plays decent they sign him to a one year 5 million dollar 1st round tender
3. If he plays just so so they sign him to a one year 3 million dollar second round rfa tendr
4. If number 3 is true they will try to restructure Jimmy G's contract also
5. If numbers 1 and 2 are true Jimmy G is traded or waived once healthy.
6. Mark my words the Niners will draft the BYU kid or the ND State kid, 80% probability

He has to win.
One winning season in 4 is not good, one winning season in 6 is unforgivable.

It is a tough time to start over which makes me wonder if he will try a vet over a draft pick which is how we got here.

I wonder how much the injury is hindering JG. Keep him and draft a qb would be my choice but Kyle has to nail the draft pick.
2017 healthy 5-0
2018 hurt crappy season
2019 healthy 13-3 SB
2020 hurt crappy season so far
2021 healthy ???

Trend is every other year he's healthy and does well when he is.

I think you give him next year and see if he stays healthy but also draft a QB or get one via FA. Doesn't need to be a top 10 draft pick. Or even a 1st rounder.

i would like to see him in the 2021 season, but the CAP hit is a big factor

Can't really argue with that and I'm not sure why there's a smiley right in the middle of my post lol

People on here have no idea how lucky we are to have him. It was absolutely worth Tomsula and Kelly suffering to get him, if the alternatives were some milquetoast guy immediately after Harbaugh.

Kyle is more important than Jimmy......however, I really think there's a big risk moving on from Jimmy unless you can truly lock down a supreme talent in the draft next year or you get Rodgers or something.

Ryan and Cousins feel like lateral moves ultimately........better in some ways but not all.......Darnold I wouldn't mind getting if we had JG on the team still (not sure if his salary compensation is still cheap).

The way I see it, JG probably finds himself in an Alex Smith 2017 situation in the best case scenario.......maybe has a career year and still gets moved on from. Or maybe not.

If Jimmy stays healthy next year we are likely to see good production out of him, but at the same time he should be pushed with competition that could legit take over if he struggles.

Jimmy's overall W/L record suggests he's a lot better than many of us are still giving him credit for.

I think Kyle feels the same way. If we have a s**t season because we canned Jimmy, that's definitely not a good look.......
Restructure his contract and draft a stud QB and see
JG has no real trade value.

The Pats may give a conditional 7th rounder for him and I don't see anyone else making a move to get him.

Whatever the Best financial move is we should take it.

Tank the rest of the season and hope we can get a top tier QB.

Yes it will be a big call to move on from Jimmy G without a replacement lined up and the replacement must be at elite level or on the way there.

Rogers would only ever be a short term option because of his age and he wont come cheap. I do not see him as a realistic option. Same with any of the other veterans.

We have to see whether it is Mullen's Steve Young opportunity year or if we can secure a very high first round pick and grab one of the youngster QBs in the next draft. If either of those things happen the question is will JG have another year in 2021 which takes up to the SB? That is what he will need to do in 2021 and he will know it is in his interests to take a pay cut to ensure the team can buy the right guys to get us there.

Enlisting another veteran QB would be too costly to buy the players to give us the depth to get to another SB and we need that depth because we know we get injured too much.
Restructure and draft a rookie high

He's with more than a 7thb to them. Newton is playing really bad, and they would take Jimmy's over him. .

right he's signed thru 2025. Got 4 yrs to work with a rookie QB and finish build a top roster around him.

No he has trade value...his contract isn't overwhelming and is yr to yr team-option deal. That's actually valuable.

You can't tell me Josh Rosen costed a 2nd and 5th and Jimmy is worth a 7th rd pick...The bears gave up a 4th rd pick and his new fresh contract.
