What should the 49ers do with Jimmy G?

Either way he is done, glad the team sees it finally.

Our "elite" D that carried us all season was given a 10 pt lead with 7 mins to go. They couldn't hold it. By far and away they are the first to blame.

More funny is people are voting for it.

Didn't you know, QB's who cant read defenses actually get better at it if they take 4 years off.

This is complete and utter nonsense.

First, it's insulting to this defense to put "elite" in quotation marks. It was elite, period.
Patrick Mahomes over last 35 games of his career has only had ONE game where he threw more than 1 interception. This game was the superbowl.

Second, the DEFENSE gave the ball back to the offense with 12 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. In fact, the defense at that point has finished two of their last possessions with interceptions.

The offense next three drives were

1 first down, 17 yards
three and out, 5 yards
2 first downs, 34 yards on a must-score-TD drive

The offense blew that game. Blaming the defense that forced two picks from Mahomes and sacked him 4 times is hilarious.

You guys can keep going back and forth on blaming one aspect of the game but the truth is there's enough blame to go around for everyone. Offense, Defense, STs, KS and the Coaches, Referees, and yes fans too, it was a home game for the Chiefs on the stands, it definitely wasn't a neutral environment for our players. Our team just came up short, the sun will rise again.

I've had enough - just trade him and draft Zach Wilson in the first.

No credit to the truly elite QB on KC that made big plays when it was crunch time? No credit to their D that pressured Jimmy so much in the final minutes that he couldn't handle it? That loss wasn't on JG or the defense. It was on the entire team. It was also on the KC team that just played better in the final minutes. Winning the 1st 53 minutes are great but only the final score counts. The Niners looked like they thought the game was over a little too early.

Watch the breakdown film that was posted here after the SB. Jimmy missed wide open looks on good play calls that would have gone for big gaines or TDs. Kyle called some smart plays that would have worked if Jimmy could see the field....you could watch the disappointment wash over Kyle after each play.

blamming 1 guy and giving a pass to an entire 11 man defense (in this case is ok to take plays off because what happened earlier in the game) is a ridiculous statement.

JG's bell was also rung

Threads like these are really pointless now, the guy is done. It was on Cowheard today, if he knows it the whole league knows it.

Pack your bags Jimmy jackers he's gone.
Be careful what you wish for. Drafting a QB is a crapshoot and doesn't necessarily mean we will get better. In fact, statistically speaking we would probably end up worse. If you look back at the last 10 years of the draft 33 Qbs have been taken in the first round:

Sam Bradford, Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder, Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, EJ Manuel, Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Jameis Winston , Marcus Mariota, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Paxton Lynch, Mitchell Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Dwayne Haskins, Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love

How many of those QBs are better than Jimmy? I'm putting 10 on my list and that's being generous IMO. Statistically speaking you only have a 30% chance to draft a QB better than Jimmy G. 70% chance to draft one worse or about the same.

Newton – in his prime
Luck
Goff – up and down, last year I bet you wouldn't have said he was better
Wentz – Has been struggling as of late but I will list him here anyway
Mahomes
Watson
Allen – he's slowly developing into a good QB. Maybe too early
Jackson – hard to say about Lamar. Right now I would say No but he hasn't got any weapons to work with. Might even have the same career trajectory of Kaep but I will leave him here for now
Burrow – way too early but he looks like the real deal
Herbert – way too early but he looks like the real deal

QBs I think are on par with Jimmy:

Bradford – He had some good years but was never healthy
Tannehill – took him 7 years to get to this point. Imagine waiting 7 years for Jimmy. We cant even make it 3
Mayfield – sometimes he's good and sometimes he blows. About like Jimmy I guess
Murray – still too early but I don't think he's good as a passer. What makes him good is running just like Lamar

So if you add those to the 10 above you are looking at around 42% of the time you will draft someone the same or better than Jimmy. 58% of the time you will draft someone worse. Not good odds at all.

I'm not advocating keeping Jimmy or not, I'm just pointing out the odds of getting someone better isn't good. If it was up to me I'd keep Jimmy next year and draft a QB and let them battle it out in camp. If the rookie doesn't win let him sit for a year. We have a talented enough team when healthy to win and to win now. I just wouldn't gamble with a rookie QB and throw it all away.
