I'm not a salary cap guru. But let's say going into next year we are without:
Sherman, Dee Ford, tart, Witherspoon, tevin Coleman, McKinnon, Solomon Thomas, rich burg.

That would have to put us in good salary cap position wouldn't it?
All of those guys minus Ford/Richburg are already factored into next years cap space. If the cut Ford/Richburg prior to June 1, unruly would save roughly $10mil for this upcoming offseason

According to overthecap Ford and Richburg would free up over 21 mil in space.

Richburg for next year, pre- June 1: cap number$11,862,791 cap savings$6,966,442 Dead money$4,896,349

Ford - cap number$20,784,996 cap savings $14,354,988 dead money $6,430,008

That's what I thought initially, but it is more like 6.5 and 3.5.

Other way around. We save only 6.5 on Ford and 4.9 on Richburg.

NVMD, I see it now.

Trent Williams alone could take up most of our available cap space.
Somehow Travis Benjamin is slated for 1 mil next year....

Possibly, but again, there's 6 starting OT's available next year as Free agents and only 6 teams have space to really sign a guy to the size of contract you're thinking for that kind of money. A hypothetical, the patriots who desperately need a tackle. If they sign a top tackle to top tackle money(22 mil/year) and re-sign Joe Thuney(15 mil/year) they only have 25 mil in space left and have free agents: Jason McCourty, Lawrence Guy, J.C. Jackson(slot corner), James White, Rex Burkhead, David Andrews(starting center), and the only QB on the roster is Jarrett Stidham.

The Pats have the space only because Cam signed a 1.75 mil contract. That's dirt cheap for a starting QB. If Matt Ryan hits the market next year, you don't think BB would sign him in a heartbeat? there goes their excess cap space.

This would, theoretically, be one of the top contenders for Trent Williams in FA - and they don't have a ton of space if they sign him either.

League wide, cap space is a problem. Players and front offices are acting differently about the cap and I think there's a lot of posturing to see what really happens.
FO's have been acting strangely, like the cap won't be a big deal. You're seeing that with a team like the Saints, who were already scheduled to be WAYYYY over the cap next year taking on Kwon's contract and pushing them further into the red.

Players have been acting like the cap will be squeezed on their current team and will test the market thinking they'll get more money elsewhere. The problem is, if nothing changes, there's going to be a surplus of talent to available cap space. Something's gotta give there. Either talent will become much more affordable or the cap has to get adjusted or across the board pay-cuts have to happen. That's just how it's going to be.

There are plenty of teams that need an elite starting tackle with available cap space. I think the most obvious one is the Jets. Whoever is the head coach of the Jets next season will 100% upgrade their OL after drafting Trevor Lawrence. They've got $82m in available cap space.

There are 2 tackle spots in football.

They do, but the market isn't really full of teams with space.
LT's available in FA next year: Russel Okung, T. Williams, Allejandro Villanueva, Cam Robinson, Sam Tevi, Jason Peters
RT's available: Cameron Flemming(Giants), Matt Feiler(Steelers), Daryl Williams(Bills) Kelvin Beachum(Cardinals), Taylor Moton(Panthers)
Teams projected to have more than 35 mil in space: 6
Jags
Jets - drafted Mekhi Becton 1st round last year at LT
Colts - Anthony Costanzo currently signed as LT
Patriots
WFT
Bengals
I see 4 teams competing for 6 tackles with several very good right tackles who would probably make good LT's - I've already covered the Patriots as a hypothetical as well.
The only teams I see competing with us for Trent's services would be the Jags or Bengals. If you're Trent - who you signing with?

Whichever team gives me the biggest bag.
