No, the point is we don't have a QB, we already have enough pieces to get us up there. But, if you don't get a QB, then you will be rebuilding that's for sure.

I think Shanahan gets a free pass this year... He's shown that with a healthy, stacked roster he is as good as any NFL head coach.

THAT SAID...

I predict next season we bring in an Offensive Coordinator AND I predict Shanahan will be on a VERY short leash.

If an OC is forced on Shanahan you might as well fire him and get it over with.
Firing Shanahan is bad thing?

Yes, if you want to go 4-12 for the next 20 years every year. We'll have nothing but Tomsula head coaches for decades if we fire Shanahan. The entire NFL will think we're toxic morons. Meanwhile Shanahan will win a few SBs with the team that wins the sweepstakes to hire him this offseason.

I think having a losing season 3 out of the 4 years here is justifiable. He should be on the hot seat next year.

Roster context matters. 2 of those 3 years had season derailing IR for top talent.

Shannahan is not the issue. He's a great coach. Look what he's working with this year. We have a lot of talent that's on IR and a lot of promising young players.
We will be back in the playoff mix in about 5 years.

In this team and the position they are in now, they are definitely mutually exclusive. No rookie has playoff success in his first year so you are really asking this Franchise QB to learn shanahan's system and be ready to roll in at least two years and pray that the team is still competitive at that time.

He said Franchise QB. I assume he's looking to draft a new QB because you aren't getting a Franchise QB on the market and if you can, the 49ers can't afford that right now

As long as the new QB can throw down field longer than 15 yards - with zip, I think the majority of the posters here would be content.

No one is asking you to play the rookie right away. Start Jimmy G ideally for the whole season unless he gets injured again or doesn't perform. You don't need 2 years, QBs play much earlier these days. Then, you look at the pieces on this team, they are young.

Just so that you know, Mahomes started in Year 2 and I would expect the rookie to play in his second year too.

I would draft a QB but still keep Jimmy. Let him learn the System and be Jimmy's backup for a year. We need a new backup QB no matter what.

Retool. Reset the cap with a rookie QB. You can win games now with a young QB.

If we don't go to the Super Bowl next yr so be it...be better than this s**t show & knowing you have a great up and coming QB on a rookie deal is a big deal.

Jimmy isn't taking us to the Super Bowl next yr with a worse roster anyway.

Yeah, hopefully they're not looking at a 3rd/4th rounder. I want a 1st round - top 10 QB.

These people would've fired Bill Walsh and Chuck Noll.
