This teams OL evaluation certainly leaves something to be desired.

Which is is why in the other thread where the idea that the 9ers don't value OL keeps up coming up I argue the point continually. The issue isn't they don't value the position, they just aren't picking the right people.

...and they need better OL coaching. Losing John Benton hurt.

I believe coaching may be a bigger problem. Not a single drafted O-lineman has developed under this regime. The best guys were traded for or free agents and had years in the league. In terms of homegrown talent, the best we have is Dan Brunskill.

We will see. Tomlinson was a bust and then came to SF and become a pro-bowler. We have Banks and Burford now. We will see where they are in a few years.
The coach were able to get guys off the street and start, I am referring to Mike Person and Brendal.
Arrows pointing up for this guy.
Wow, Banks was 49ers highest rated offensive player yesterday according to PFF. I know alot of you dont like PFF but still impressive.
The entire line played well with Banks leading the way. A freindly reminder to not write off young developing players because they aren't world beaters from day 1.
Not to be a negitive nancy but I recall seeing him with a big 2nd level whiff (I believe it was on a Lance run ). Other than that he looked purdy darn good.

As long as he makes slight improvements every week and works on his body control in space he will be just fine.

I thought he got steamrolled back too on one of our runs. And sucked at another block later where Trent was talking to him.

This. I have been pleasantly surprised with him so far and love to see it

Banks had a couple nice blocks that stood out. They were the inverse of last week where he whiffed on the LB. This week he successfully climbed to the second level after chipping Seattle's fat f**k IDL and connected with the LB to spring our RB.

One of those runs. This is some damn good execution by the OL across the board.

I thought the o-line played great yesterday, certainly above my expectations. The inside zone and option off of inside zone worked well yesterday because Seattle was stacking the C gap all day.

He was far from Terrible. He has room to improve and yes, he should get the same first game pass others seem to get. I mean Trent gave up the most pressures of all 5 linemen and Mcs**tty gave up his usual sack at the worst possible time. Greenlaw, Deebo, Wilson and Lanced all played worse.

Can we just pump the brakes on that kind of rhetoric?

Yes, he gave up an unfortunate sack, however, his overall rating put him at #14 among all tackles in the first week. Not bad for a guy coming off a very serious leg injury and still playing with a brace on his knee. #14.

Banks and Burferd with the 2 highest pass blocking grades for our line through 2 weeks. A lot of hate on Banks cus he didn't play last year but he seems to be developing nicely. Credit where due

He doesn't suck, which I was afraid of since he barely played last season. So far so good for Banks. He should get better with time.

Shanahan stated Banks could have started mid-season, but he did not want to disrupt the continuity of the O-line.

I specifically mentioned guys traded for. We are going to truly see because we have a few young guys drafted the last few seasons . I was higher on Banks than most because he came in with a pass blocking rep. So far, it looks promising. I think Banks has the talent to end up being better than Tomlinson. Hoping we only have to turn our attention to tackle and center.

So the Lions coaching staffs deserved credit for Tomlinson's developement from a bust to a pro bowler, while the Niners coaching staffs deserved nothing?
