With AThomas starting at Left CB, it gives me a clue into how Ryans wants his defense structured. LCB is usually your better CB since right handed QBs tend to favor that side of the field. To start the year week 1, Ryans put Moseley at LCB, Verrett (the better CB) at Right CB - odd. Now with Thomas and Moseley in, he puts Moseley (the better CB) at RCB. So to me, Ryans wants his better CB at RCB, which is the less targeted side - sounds backwards, but I think I have an idea why he does this. The CB merry go round this year has made it difficult for me to see how Ryans really wants to play his CBs. But this is a clue.
@thl You realize you didn't actually tell us why you think that is? ;-)

I know . Would like to first hear what others think.
He's going to have his hands full. I hope the refs won't call any phantom PI calls against Cooper or Lamb.

I think it's to roll coverage to the left side and leave the right side on an island more. Try to make the coverage force the QB to go against their tendency and towards our best cover corner.

Just my best guess.
Thomas is a bust. I know because a lot of posters said he was. One more example of people jumping to conclusions on draft picks before they even have a chance to play. It's often said that it takes 3 years to evaluate a draft because some guys a re injured and others just take a year or 2 to develop.

Exactly what I was thinking. Put your better CB on an island, on the side that is typically less targeted (for right handed QBs). Then roll coverage (safety help) to the lesser CB, putting more numbers to the side that the QB is more likely to target.

Which makes the Thomas INT more impressive. Rams went 3x1 to isolate Thomas vs OBJ 1v1. This 'forces' 49ers to roll coverage towards the passing strength, away from Thomas, but Thomas delievered.

I assume we are giving Ambry help on most snaps. Mosley will be more isolated.

I am wondering if we have been given Ambry less and less help since his first start.

I am wondering if Demaco put Ambry on the left side just so the rookie doesn't need to switch to another side. Mosley played the left side this season but had actually more experience playing the right side in prior seasons.

I get the feeling someone is going to try to raid Adam Peters this offseason.

Adam Peters is the MVP of the FO, he is the scout. But John Lynch is a former player who understand players and empathize with them. I'd even swap Lynch and Peters jobs to keep Peters around. If Peters leave this team is screwed.

If Peters leave you best believe we will get a good one to take his place. Peters deserves his shot on his own and if not in San Francisco then somewhere else.

Most likely Peters gets promoted to GM, and Lynch to POFO.

What happens to Paraag?

That's possible. Verrett played both sides with Chargers but both Saleh and Ryans put him at RCB. I guess we may need another season, with stability at CB, to see how Ryans envisions his defensive backfield.

Horrific job by OBJ to track this ball. Once he turns around and sees it underthrown, switch to defensiveback mode. Nah, just keep running and let Thomas get an INT.
