with the way it looked liked, it looked that might have been the primary option. (RB in the flat)
Talking about the first Ward INT? It was a flood concept so it's high to low. Norman/Ward took away Beckham's vertical route. KWaun took away the intermediate, Samson took away the short.
idk, he didn't give OBJ any real look, and Kupp was wide open but not looking or expected the ball. Staff looked at the RB way longer than he looked at all the other options. He then gave up on the RB which he then panicked and forced it to OBJ

Deebo being used as a WR/RB really gives defenses issues. When the 49ers put out JWilson, Deebo, Aiyuk, JJennings, Kittle (11 personnel), the Rams played their nickel defense, which make sense. Suddenly, Deebo is a RB and Wilson plays as a fullback, lead blocking for Deebo (21 personnel). And now there's a run game advantage. I think this is how Hurd was supposed to be used. I can see Kyle doing this more often in future games, and if opponents keep their base defense out there, then Deebo plays as a WR and either a safety or LB is covering a WR.
I thought the 49ers were pretty sloppy when it came to presnap penalties. I think I remember four false starts, unacceptable considering it's a home game. Glad they were able to overcome that since penalties can get an offense away from the run game. Jimmy's passing on 3rd downs was on point.
I 100% believe that was going to be the case, THL. And I absolutely suspect if they find another hybrid player like him in the future, you will see more of this implemented. And in fact, I bet you Kyle doing it means the league copycats this going forward.
It's an awesome matchup problem -- it's a shame we couldn't get Hurd out there. His size and speed would've been just as difficult to handle as Deebo when it comes to running and receiving.

If Hurd was what he was drafted to be, could you imagine having Deebo, Hurd, Aiyuk, some WR, and Kittle on the field? Hurd can lead block for Deebo (21 personnel), or they go 4 wide. Ah, what could have been.

Having a scheme advantage is great, but falls apart when you don't have the talent.
It would be much nicer, IMO, to focus on talent over scheme. Would you rather have interchangeable WR/RB parts or would you rather have 4 top flight WRs and just pass well, even when teams know you're going to pass? Maybe that's a hard thing to accomplish but for me, having a WR that can win downfield when you need it trumps a coach who has to scheme his players open.

TY for pointing this out. Not all 3rd and 4th downs are created equally. This offense leans heavily on first down success and I heard on ESPN that Kyle runs 92% of the time on first downs. My bigger point is, we were in 1st or 2nd and long quite a bit because of pre snap penalties, loss of yards on predictable runs and even botched snap counts by our own C. Nobody looks at those things though. So in a series, it's like trying to convert 2 third downs just to get a first. Lots to overcome just to get to 3rd downs. Worse off, is 1st and 2nd and long plays right into the Rams strengths (pass rush). But Jimmy combated that with the fastest time to throw rate. That's why Tom Compton was barely talked about after Jaylon Moore went down. Had Kyle stuck with PA, Jimmy probably would be on I.R. and Tom Compton would be crucified for giving up 8 hits, 5 sacks and we'd be wondering if he has some incriminating pictures of Kyle somewhere.

So many great plays, JD and as you kept mentioning, we out physicaled them. "Physicality" to be precise. Looking at this for the 4th time, it is almost unbelievable that Aiyuk AND Deebo, broke so many tackles, albeit, they had 4, 6 yds before anyone touched them. The OL just was fantastic, but seeing your vid, i just didn't realize how many times we had 3 WRs, but Deebo was actually playing from the backfield. Little stuff i didn't notice, but oh so impressive. Didn't realize that Deebo at RB made Jaylen Ramsey into a run stopper and that ain't his strong suit.
It was obvious that this was our best game , well….maybe since kyle got here. Beat 'em physically, mentally with Kyle, athletically wiht Aiyuk and Deebo, and to perfection wiht JG. Also the game plan of 40+ (44 actually) runs was clever against a team that has superb pass D. The three and out to start, followed by our 90 yd 19 play, 11 minute TD was by far the most memorable of the kyle era. It was like every single guy out there played his best game, incl HC, DC, and ST coach.
Watching the Huf play again and again and again, was something we haven't seen in ages. A hit at the moment of WR touching the ball. That was the most welcome play of the game. We almost had another not on vid, (maybe Ward?) that was a 0.1 second too early, Man that was close. If only that could be coached up again and again. Huf seems to be the guy who can do it, and then others get the hang of it.
Thanks again, JD, for the breakdown of the best and most instructive plays. Watching JG sail that beauty between 3 DBs for TD was awesome, and the way he had the ball down and then zipped it out was classic 2017 jimmyG. Great teaching video.

the size he had too. would've been an asset box-out WR
